Thanks for the positive feedback everyone. I was worried that it would be too long and bore you all but it doesn’t seem to have done that.
OK, answers to questions:
Wannabe: Don’t ask about the price! It was not cheap I can tell you. However, to get to manchester from the North of Spain/South of France is impossible unless you change in CDG, FRA or BRU & so the price is high. AF were cheaper than LH via FRA or SN via BRU for the weekend I wanted to go but for others, the other two were cheaper. I could have flown with EZY to london or Bristol and got the train or made my own connection but I would have wasted so much time doing that that it wouldn’t have been worth it as I was only going for the weekend. I did it out of love (for my girlfriend and avaiation!!!) and would do it again any day. I got Delta Skymiles as well!
Bhoy: I know it makes no sense but the 737 seats were definitely wider. I think it’s because they’re made by a different manufacturer. Also, most airlines do only use the wider cabin of the A320 to give more aisle space than to help us lot in economy out with a bit more space.
Cestrian: Fairport were awesome. I saw them in the Lowry last year as well & they just seem to have an affinity with that place. At one point, they were sitting on the edge of the stage so my friend could take a photo of them (we were in the front row). I do like this year’s Matty Groves with the reggae version of Dirty Linen on it but unfortunately, we didn’t get “How do you like my curtains that I got in Ikea last week”. Shame. Looking forward to Cropredy now!
Go on! Do tell!
You see there´s always a simple explanation behind everything 😉
Great pics. Sounds like a good day apart from the obvious problems. I’m going to have to arrange to meet up with some of you once I get back to the UK in september.
OK, back to the topic (can’t say that in French. Sorry Hand. Could do it in German or Spanish if you wanted!) my username is a bit more complicated. It’s based on my e-mail address. The first 3 letters (gpb) are my initials. The “croppers” is a slang name for “Cropredy” which is a tiny village in Oxfordshire where Fairport Convention hold an annual folk/rock festival in August. The 63 comes from the fact that for some reason, hotmail wouldn’t allow me to have gpb_croppers & so suggested that. I use this as my username for most websites.
Well done & best of luck for the future. I’m sure you’ll have a great time with VS on the A340.
Make sure you bring your hardhat.
LOL! Actually, I have had family members warning me to take care that I don’t get hit by a flying piece of roof in CDG. This was from the same people who were worried I’d get bombed when I went to Madrid a couple of weeks ago! I have assured them all that I’m not going near 2E. I will keep a look out for it though as all the pictures I’ve seen of it make it look horrendous.
Cheers mate. That’s good to know. I’m sure I’ll enjoy my weekend home & I’ll attempt to write a trip report when I get back.
Thanks again for all the info everyone.
LOL Robert! I suppose the cable used to charge it could be a dangerous weapon but thats about it.
Hand: Thanks for the map mate. It looks very easy. The only thing I’m a bit puzzled about is it looks like I have to go landside to make the connection. Isn’t there any kind of airside walkway or shuttle bus? Sorry to be a pain & ask all these questions but I have been warned that CDG is a nightmare so I want to be as prepared a possible beforehand.
Thanks again guys for being so helpful
One other thing I’ve just thought of that I’m sure someone can answer. When I change flights in CDG I have nearly 2 hours on the outbound but only about 1 1/4 hours on the return to get between terminal 2B & 2F. Should this be enough time or will I be running as I’ve heard that CDG is a pain to change in.
Thanks again
I believe DL ordered the 764 to replace the L1011 on domestic routes that need lots of capacity e.g. ATL-MCO/LAX etc.
That’s concistent with AF …. 🙁
I wouldn’t know as I haven’t really had any dealings with them before. I was however quite impressed with the lady at the BIQ ticket desk when I went there as I had a problem with my ticket. Somehow AF had my surname dwon as my forename and vice versa. I phoned them and they said as it was a restricted fare I would have to pay to have my ticket re-issued. I went to BIQ to do this & instead of charging me, the lady changed my paper ticket to an e-ticket so she didn’t have to re-issue it & therefore could do it for free. Good service there.
I too think it’s really good. It would of course never happen due to the amount of paint required but it would be a bit of a change.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I didn’t think I’d have a problem but I just got a little worried when I rang AF and they didn’t have a clue on the rules and told me to pack it in my checked luggage.
Thanks again.
Fantastic report and pictures. I’ve only ever changed planes in Schiphol so I didn’t get chance to leave the departures area but I think I’ll have to take a trip there at some point. It looks great.
