I may be smaller than you but I’m in front of you :p
Fantastic report. I absolutely love Frankfurt airport and I, like you, hope they don’t close the viewing terrace. I spent so much time on there during my 6 months in Germany and have many happy memories. I also couldn’t understand the purpose of the 2nd security check when I flew to BRS from there with BA in february especially as when I’d flown to LHR 3 weeks before with LH there had only been one. I can only guess BA are more paranoid about terrorists than LH.
Glad you had a great time & I too would love to go to FRA again before september. Being stuck in Spain though, I fear I won’t be able to 🙁
P.S. I look forward to seeing the pictures
Glad you enjoyed your flights. Just a shame they couldn’t have been for a happier reason. My condolences and best wishes!
Good Point. Well Made!
Thanks for confirming that. I assume this is why BA are having problems with the RB211s then as GE are less experienced in maintaining other people´s engines?
A late reply from me as well I’m afraid. Glad you had a great day & congratulations on such a fantastic present.
AFAIK GE just do the maintenace at Cardiff, and that is only on 747s and 777s. 767s and 757s are maintained at LHR, with 737 light maintenance at LHW and heavy at LHR, with BACX using GLA.
If I remember correctly, BA had an engine shop somewhere in the Valleys in Wales which was sold to GE, who now undertake all engine repairs for BA. From what I have heard, there have been many problems with this agreement and BA wish they had never disposed of it. I may be wrong but I think this is the case. Maybe someone else can confirm this?
I never got an answer to this on the other A380 engine thread but how do they cope with the obvious thrust difference on one side of the aircraft when testing these engines? Do they just run them at a lower speed than the smaller, less powerful ones to create the same amount of thrust?
The usual qualified response to an accident involving a Soviet/Russian aircraft. How about some sympathy for the crew and their families!!!!!!
Very well said! A crash of any aircraft is a terrible event which affects many more people than those directly involved. My sympathy to the families of the crew.
Those are great! The only thing I’m looking forward to about going back to uni in september is being able to go to MAN whenever I want. I’m certainly not looking forward to my finals 😉
Cool shots! Well done. I’m not a huge fan of the A330 but you have got some fantastic photos of it there. I do agree that the MYT interim livery is awful though.
Kalamata (http://www.btinternet.com/~zola25/Duxford.htm), which is also a military base and probably why the Greek authorities turn a blind eye at places like Rhodes……
That is what I’m saying. In civilian airports you’re fine. In Diagoras (the passenger airport in Rhodes), you can do what you like & no one cares. If you go near the military airport (Maritsa) there are signs warning you not to take photos and anyone who ignores them gets what they deserve in my opinion.
Maybe jailing them was a bit extreme but I still do not have much sympathy with them for ignoring the signs in the first place. They couldn’t even use the argument that they didn’t understand Greek as it’s a picture sign. I think the Greeks made a big deal of it to make an example of theese people so maybe others won’t be so stupid in the future.
“You really should learn how to bay park”
There’s a big campaing on the Bristol Airport website at the moment to get the local business community to fill in a survey saying how much they need a direct USA link. According to the airport they know there will be plenty of leisure demand but they need to show that there will be business demand as well. I’m not sure how successful this survey has been but it has been going for a couple of months now. A direct US link from BRS would be really good but probably too expensive.
