Exactly. This is why I couldn’t understand the whole thing with those spotters that got arrested. There are clear signs around military airbases of a camera with a big red line through it. Anyone who doesn’t understand that that means no photography can’t have too much common sense.
Because the Greek authorities can’t believe anyone in their right mind would be interested in watching planes, other than spies. So if they catch you watching planes they will lock you up and throw away the key ! 😮
As I posted above, I have NEVER had any problems in Rhodes. One year we even managed to tune in to ATC on our hire car radio (I think my dad used the frequency for radio 1 & we heard the tower clearing a Hapag-Lloyd 737 for take off). I have sat at the end of the runway & taken photos many times without anyone saying anything. As far as I’m aware, if there’s no sign telling you you can’t take photos then you’re ok. As for just watching the aircraft, you should be fine.
Fantastic report and pictures Wannabe. I’m still jealous of you having been in FRA. I just love it there. Glad you had a good time. Borneo certainly looks very picturesque.
I can see it fine. Looks very impressive to me. It also shows just how small the normal A340-300 engines are. One Question, when they test englines like this, how do they cope with the obvious thrust difference on one side of the aircraft?
Enjoy your time in Singapore & have a great flight back to the UK. Look forward to seeing the pictures.
I would say Fake as well.
I thought there were talks of QF getting the 777 but I’m not sure. Weren’t they one of the members of the “Working Together” group? If I remember correctly, they are the only memeber that hasn’t ordered the 777 yet.
I’ve taken photos around the perimiter fence at Rhodes airport many times without problems. Wheteher I’ve just been lucky, I don’t know. There’s even a dirt track you can drive down which is about 20 feet from the end of the runway & you can almost touch the tyres of the aircraft there.
At all military airports in Greece there are specific signs of a camera with a big line through it so if you take photos there, you deserve all you get. I’ve never seen these at a greek commercial airport so I assume you’re ok.
Thanks for the reply Düsseldwarf. I’ll look in to getting the Metro out there. Anyone else got any ideas or tips?
Where has that mouse got to?
Yeah have a great time and enjoy the flights. I’m VERY envious that you’re changing in Frankfurt as I lived about 40 miles from there for 6 months and love that airport. My nearest semi-reasonable airport now is Bilbao. Ah well, I go back to Salford in september so that should mean plenty of trips to MAN.
You’re right that flying becomes addictive. I’ve flown 11 flights this year so far and can’t wait for my next one (5th June Biarritz – CDG – MAN). I would love to become a pilot but at the moment I’m tied up with studying languages. Maybe in the future, one can always dream!
I don’t quite understand the need for the 345 on the route either. However they have used it on the route ever since the 1st one was delivered back last year. Now however they always use the same one A6-ERC
From what I can gather they use the 345 on this route as it’s considered a prestigious route so they want to use their latest aircraft on it. I’m not 100% certain about this but it would explain why they use the 345 to LGW even though they don’t need its range.
I suppose it was a good try though. Top marks for effort!
LOL! You’ll be lucky!
