Yep ATL really is great….and huge! I flew in on an MD-11 and back out again on a 764. Brilliant, especially the landing. It feels like you’re flying off the runway on the high speed at a few hundred knots as they desperately scramble so as not to cause a go-around! And on take-off, don’t expect much waiting around!
I am ready for this as I flew out of there last year on a DL MD-11 (in business class due to a muck up with our return flights. What a shame š )and it was fantastic. I was meant to fly in there at the start of my trip as well but due to overbooking we volunteered to go with BA and AA via DFW. For this we got $400 in transport vouchers which is why we’re going to LAX in december. The whole trip (LGW-ATL-LAX-DFW-ATL-LGW) is costing Ā£400 for 4 people and we get 12,500 skymiles each. Bargain!
Me me me! Within the next 14 days I have 8 flights š Out of these, I go through 4 airports I’ve never flown from/to before, and get to go on my first memorable 747 flight (I was quite young to remember much about my last one). And! I get to fly on my first turbo-prop airliner…..the Fokker 50 š
LOL I’m glad I’m not the only one who gets excited about these things. By the way wannabe, the Fokker 50 is a great aircraft. I’ve flown on 2 with KLM and they were both excellent flights (except for the turbulence on the 1st flight but not the fault of the aircraft!) and I’m flying on another with Iberia Regional (Air Nostrum) on 2nd July. Hooray!
And …. cherry on the cake , ATL is just greaaatttt!!
Yes I know. I’m really looking forward to this trip as we fly to and from ATL on the 777. We also have 3 1/2 hours in ATL before our connection to LAX which is great and then fly to LAX on a 764 which I’ve never flown on so can’t wait. Looking forward to the 3 flights on the return and bumping up my skymiles account.
Connections every time as more connections=more flights!
In December I’m flying with Delta from Gatwick to LA and back on 2nd January. On the return I’m booked LAX-DFW-ATL-LGW. I managed to persuade my family this was the best way of getting back to Gatwick. It was also slightly cheaper than LAX-ATL-LGW but doesn’t take much longer (we’re just in the air longer rather than waiting on the ground in ATL).
Travel City Direct are a Swansea based travel company specialising in Florida holidays. They also do European holidays but I’m not 100% sure where to. Somehow they have the ability to undercut most tour operators by a large amount (presumably as they are a smaller private company). We went with them to Florida in 2001 and they were at least Ā£500 cheaper than all other companies I tried. We were able to fly from Cardiff for the same price as Gatwick with most operators (not that we ended up landing back in Cardiff but thats a whole other story and nothing to do with Travel City). They are a great and really helpful company & I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again (and I am NOT biased because I come from Swansea, I vote with my wallet!).
Well done Wys. I am really pleased to hear this and hope that the forums can regain the quality they had when I first joined
I agree. I haven“t posted that much myself but I would hope that the posts I have mad haven“t been too pointless. I“ve always thought that the number of posts was unimportant. I would also like to see some members becoming moderators to try and put a stop to all these stupid and pointless fights.

Thanks for that SOFTLAD. It was starting to annoy me as I knew that I knew it but just couldn“t remember it to save my life!

Up until now thats what it stood for as they were a national airline for Chile. But they are now wanting to encorporate their neighbouring contries and like SAS become a multinational airline. So now they ditch the “chile” and keep LAN. Lan now standing forLatin Airlines Network.
Thanks for that Bmused. That would make sense.
Logic would say LAN Chile stood for Lineas Ćreas Nacionales de Chile (National Airline of Chile) but IĀ“m not 100% certain. Also, Lineas Ćreas Nacionales wouldnĀ“t really make sense now without the Chile on the end.
