Can the Hawk carry guided ATG munitions, like the AGM-65 perhaps? If not, than I think a better alternative might be the L-159.

wow, 71 … 35 years ago,and that too in fog of war … not in peace where u can sink ur own equipment… btw, out of curiosity, was there an investigation into that affair. seems like since indians are so open about everything id like to know how they managed to sink a huge floating repair platform. or does that sorta stuff doesnt roll heads in delhi?

Harry, more likely, it was part of the ROSE upgrade that has been adapted for other aircraft in the inventory as well.
Also the two tone grey scheme is only for Mirage 3EPs and 3EAs (Os). All mirage 5 varients and the 3RPs still have the original schemes as they will operate at lower altitudes.

well GD if that rationale suits ur needs, then great for you. though, as far as being secretive is concerned, every country is that to some extent. However, just because some statistics are not given does not imply that the ones made public are incorrect. the way u are argueing would make for a slippery slope. If its ok to give number of hrs per pilot, maybe then give number of hrs by each individual aircraft, or pilot. why not how long each sortie was and what kind of profile was flown etc etc…

anyways, ure right about 2002 and not 2004, thanks for that much.

now ive seen that interview pop up on every instance when PAF’s hrs/pilot are discussed. Do u remember per chance how old that interview was? that particular pilot also did stints in other sqds at that time too if im not correct, including the CCS as an instructor. but anyways, i dont think its rationale to use one pilot’s career as a yard stick for every pilot in PAF. as i mentioned earlier, F-16s flew fewer sorties during the early 90s due to scarsity of spares, however why that would impact hrs on say the mirage fleet, or f-7s? that correlation is hard to draw. but anyways, this is a mute discussion really. if u think u have it right, then rejoice in the knowledge that PAF pilots dont fly as many hrs and perhaps ull sleep better.

as for my site, if u come across PAF related attrition for this year, please do let me know. ill appreciate any updates.

To people who are asking for breakdown of figures such as ratio of flight hr per capita!!! do u guys seriously think anyone here will have those numbers. Pakistan is not as open a society as the West. Can you guys produce similar numbers for say for Norway or Greece?
As far as remarks about crashes are concerned, I dont see any reason for PAF not to be jubilent about its figures. I think just last year when war seemed imminent between India and Pakistan, PAF had 97% fleet readiness (as reported by Alan in an AFM issue). Other than that, if there are comparisons with other countries, anyone with a little sense would realize that it is something called PR and is very common in every country in one fashion or another.

Someone mentioned PAF F-16s not flying for five years … well i certainly have not come across any such references, but its not a top secret that around 92-93, it was cruch time for PAF as the spare stock had dwindled since Pakistan could not procure spares from the US anymore. Therefore, it took PAF some time to figure out how to acquire those spares on a commercial basis. By 1996, the Brown amendment was enforced which bought some relief to the F-16 fleet. However, from my understanding, IAF’s Mig-29 fleet was facing similar circumstances in the early 90s after the Soviet breakdown and the majority of that fleet was non-operational for a while.

As for twin-engine aircraft, as mention A-5s are twin engined and so are the FT-6s and T-37s.

The F-7 serial numbers break off around 9059ish and jump to the 700s, for eg. 93701 onwards to 93731. Similarly, the F-7PGs are 01801 and so forth. 600s are reserved for FT-7s.
As for pics, here are a couple of 90574+ F-7

PS. I apologize if I cant give credit where it is due for the pics. The first one I scanned from a mag, and the last one is from flight international article in Kamra. Im not good at recording original sources, but many are from Pakdef and so forth.

    1. 90575
    2. 90578
    3. 90593
    4. 90577

is that a theoretical question, or just that the possibility doesnt sit well w Indians here?
BTW, wats the stop the French from selling them to Pakistan after the Indian contract is signed?

The statement you might have read (I heard it on a TV show) was that women are slightly better at handling Gs then men because of slight biological differences. The distance from the heart to the brain is shorter on average, and thus chances of black out are less. However, that would be keeping everything else same, as there are many reasons/ways one can avoid or postpone G-lock etc.

Sameer, Pakistan’s biggest contribution is indeed the money. As we have limited experience in overhaul of western fighters, it would be hard to judge Pakistan’s contribution from a design prespective. The core team Im sure would be of Chinese engineers, with Pakistan sending in a few as well since it is a joint effort. What exactly they might be doing is impossible to quantify unless you are part of the team as well. As far as systems are concerned, Pakistan is manufacturing systems of Chinese origins for its aircraft with a few tweaks to suit its needs, like the RWR or the FTR etc.
Other than that, PAF has indeed contributed pilots (four) for flight testing and Im sure their input will be invaluable in making JF-17 a better fighter.

I think time to move on from this topic.

Im surprised you guys are bothering to debate with GA on an issue most of us have no real inside information about. I dont know what exactly the information minister said, but problems with engine could mean a multitude of things, and does not mean no engine at all. If he really wants to know why the information minister said that, maybe he could write to him and ask him directly.
i think we future we should keep speculation to a minimum and post real news stories and discuss their impact etc etc.
it was not very long ago that fc-1 was an ancient fighter comparable to the mig-15 cause of its wing-fences, and thats after it supposedly was never going to fly to begin with … dont u guys see a pattern here.
GA’s arguments like someone tell me why this person said that, or answer my question before i answer yours are pretty childish, so why bother trying to answer him at all.

A few years back when severe storms hit eastern India, there were reports that some Canberras and Mig-25s had sustained water damage etc. Ever since there have been talk of retiring the aircraft as Im sure even a few unoperational aircraft would make continuing operations expensive and tactically unfeasable.
Does anyone know how many of the original Mig-25s are unoperational?

I suppose then that the F-16 and JF-17 have enough range to support Pakistan army in its operations. If per your reasoning PAF is not going to attack any forward airbases because during peace time operations, they are not used to house the Mirages or Sukhois, there is no need to attack them, then sure PAF does not need long range fighters. BTW, how many tankers does the IAF has or plan to induct? You make it seem like every IFR capable aircraft getting airborne will be refueling!!! Besides, if IAF is not going to use those bases near the IB, it might be prudent to close them altogether dont you think. Unless ofcourse the very capable BVR equipped Mig-21, that is per your reasoning better than anything PAF can field now, is going to be using them. Perhaps even LCA in the future? Wouldnt it then make sense for PAF to attack those still, or should they not venture into Indian airspace because of the SAM threat altogether?
