    Hello, Yak 11 fan,

Interesting…. I was sure I glimpsed a red tail.??…as it turned onto North.

….when the next Merlin was heard..I ran down the hallway…and down the garden…
…..I know I’m not good at running…and now seems I’m struggling with colours..;) 😉

…perhaps even aircraft recognition went to pot with all energy used on running.??!!

…was that a Mustang.?? (colour not noted.);) 🙂

Saturday afternoon…East Kirkby Spitfire T09 around Spilsby several times during the afternoon.:)

Sunday afternoon BBMF Spitfire AB910 appeared for the Spilsby show…the show site being 4 doors up the road from home here.:) 🙂

But today all this activity was eclipsed at 11-10? this morning…

…by the sound of Merlins etc:confused:…heading from the West towards my works location at Gunby E. Lincs…into sight came Lancaster followed by Spitfire and Typhoon in line astern.:) 🙂 🙂

They manoeuvred around the area for 15 to 20 minutes with variations of the formation and the fighters breaking left/right and rejoining…before descending in a left turn to head back towards C’by..

    Hello Lindys Lad,

I seem to struggle a bit with links to Google maps…but I think the above link may work..??….it seems to do on my machine.

The concrete/chalk? white area at the centre of the image would be the former hangar site.
The airfield extended West towards where you can see the circular filter beds of the Ingoldmells Sewage Works.

If you compare the google image with the photos I posted on replies 6 & 7 of this thread you can see that after the aerodrome had gone mobile homes have extended West up to what had been the aerodrome boundary.

    Hope the link works ok,
    Clive.

    Hello Last Lightning,

I do recall the idea to have a few more museum aircraft there…also someone elses dream to have a car museum too…

Did you ever hear of the idea of DB C’ to have a railway around the site.??..(do not confuse this with the current site and its narrow gauge ex Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway).

…Do you recall the AN2 that visited on one of the fly ins..?? it looked massive as it lined up into wind at the end of the field near the access road…..it seemed to be airborne in a couple of metres ….but then took half an hour to go out of sight;)

I think the Aerobat (was it ex Germany ?) met a sad fate around about the day of the re launch of the airfield..(still on the old site)…tragically taking with it two members of the aerodrome staff…possibly the ground school tutor ?? and..I seem to think a young lad who had not worked there long??

How many people had their first flight in an Auster, either from Skegness, North Denes or Clacton I wonder……………….? Must be hundreds I would think. I’m sure the history of pleasure flying in the UK would make an interesting tale.

    Hello Auster Fan,

I suspect you need to get writing;)

    ….it’s certainly a subject that needs documenting ….”look,, it’s got zip fasteners:eek: “

Meanwhile,…I recently purchased this badge… ex eBay, of course;)

12-47pm radial engined note alerted me to an aircraft heading N. to the West of Spilsby, E.Lincs….perhaps then passing just E of E. Kirkby….slim profile quite a high tail fin..I think a twin.??..but only glimpsed in the distant haze..

…to add..that having had a read elsewhere my suspicions as to the aircraft I saw is more than likely confirmed….Tigercat….but I wasn’t 110% sure at the original time of posting so I went with the hazy description..!!!!!
