East Kirkby Spitfire was around and about this pm…first seen passing East Keal about 3pm…and then again about an hour later.:)
..and again an hour later:)
…and again 6pm-ish…a run out towards the East and return…passing directly overhead home here in Spilsby..:) 🙂
And from Saturday evening…a heard but not seen….
…Just before dark I was sure I could hear a pair of Gipsy Queen engines…and I hopped out of the bath tub a bit sharpish to see if I could see anything…but couldn’t..
…..was I imagining this or was something with such engines around about E.Lincs yesterday evening.??
Clive.
Hello,
If I have done my sums right…then this link hopefully may take you to a more recent (perhaps 2 years ago?) aerial image of the Aerodrome site.
The concrete/chalk? white area at the centre of the image would be the former hangar site.:(
Clive.
6-04pm…Spitfire from East Kirkby has just done a circuit of Spilsby here and returned to EK..:)
Clive.
Hello,
I don’t recall the F104 being there for very long.??
..and it is showing in Wrecks&Relics 12th edn as arriving at Grimsby by 3/1990.
I was not aware of a resident F100.??
..but on the subject of former residents….
….Whilst on a drive out to Binbrook during late 1997…to visit the Fern Nursery.!!. I did spot this former Skegness resident hiding in the shadows at the village garage.!!;)
All the best,
Clive.
Hello,
Excellent to read more memories of Skegness Aerodrome.:)
I hoped some would appear in time….
..2003:eek: I had not realised just how many years I have been sat at this ‘puter.;)
I went in search of info’ on the F104….I remember it being there briefly.
It seems it was during 1989 that it spent a while at Skeggy.
Having pulled Wrecks & Relics 12th edition from the shelf….and to my surprise, tucked in the page with ref to Skegness was a long lost little scrap of paper with pencil note that I had evidently lodged in there at some time….it reads “F104G arrived Skegness 27/6/89”.
It will be the one that is later shown at Grainthorpe, N.Lincs.??
Good to read that there is some film archived of Skegness.
I would certainly be pleased to see any photos posted up to highlight the memories…or any of the former Skegness based fleet today.
Thank you once again for posting on with memories of Skeggy.:) 🙂
Clive.
Scans of a photo that I purchased at a postcard fair about 10 years ago of G-ASXX.
Clive.
High up in the blue just West of Spilsby, E. Lincs a BBMF Griffon Spitfire has just been giving it some verve.:) ..PM631.??
Clive.
It would appear from the direction of travel that G-ALFA was heading for home as listed on G-INFO.
Clive.
Couple of orbits from Auster G-ALFA again….:) 🙂
….immediately to the South of home here, Spilsby E.Lincs 4-14pm
….and away home to the East
Clive.:)
Off work poorly today..:(
….but I made it outside into the sunshine 1-45pm-ish having heard an Auster about….suspect it was G-ALFA.??
It made a tight turn almost above home here in Spilsby:) 🙂 …then has wandered away to the West.
Clive.:)
10-58am…East Kirkby Spitfire out and about Spilsby, E. Lincs area:) 🙂
…and repeat….out to the East…from 11-41am.:)
BBMF Dakota out and about today 12-05pm….seen from Gunby E.Lincs…looking out to the NW. It spent a few minutes with a Chipmunk?…before departing in a Coningsby direction.
