G-AROY
21-45….
The Stearman has just passed North of Spilsby..heading East into the gloom towards Skegness…
Clive.
G-AROY
…todays spotted.
This afternoon I heard what sounded like a radial engined aircraft….nothing immediately came into view…was about to dismiss it as an interesting sounding motor cycle that had fooled me….then a Stearman came into view…
Registration very easily read as;….G-AROY….4-28pm over Gunby, E. Lincs. Heading more or less West.
Lovely sound…and sight..
Clive.
Paul Day in T09 routed right overhead here at Spilsby about 3pm from Waddington en route Burgh le Marsh for display at their carnival … and again on return to Waddo for display..
Clive.
Hello,
East Kirkby Spitfire T 09 was out and about again this evening….he turned overhead home here at Spilsby at 7-10pm before heading off to the SE, returning towards EK at 7-15pm and was then out of sight but sounded to be carrying out a display for the next 5 minutes or so…
Clive. 🙂
And tonight………
Spitfire T9 out of East Kirkby was around and about here at Spilsby, E.Lincs at circa 7-50pm.
Earlier an Auster….G-ALFA I believe….was similarly around and about…
Lovely evening with blue sky right up…and with aeroplanes in it 🙂
Clive.
From home, Spilsby, saw BBMF flypast at Friskney this afternoon then watched the fighters move into line astern as they tracked West and RTB….
Clive.
Hello,
G-ALFA was out and about, enjoying the blue sky and fluffy white cloud, manouvering over E. Lincs this morning….
I enjoyed it too….merely watching from below…and then from the end of its strip on landing… 🙂

Hello Glyn,
Thank you for posting up the photos.
I have flown in G-AHSO out of Skeggy. On a quiet pleasure flight day towards the end of the operation of Skegness Aerodrome I arranged for an AHSO trip to Sturgate…and had a few other flights around the general area too. Had the Skeggy aerodrome stayed open the next year I had an idea to take the Auster on a few more outings..sadly this was to remain only a pipe dream of mine.. 🙁 .
I summise G-AHSO is still just up the road from here…so local but I don’t know…but it is shown as not a flyer.
G-ALFA is just up the road from here…in the opposite direction…and does sometimes appear over Spilsby here.
Clive.
I have posted this 1992 photo before… but I post it again.. 😉
Hello,
I had high hopes of seeing some of the action if it passed over my works East of Coningsby….but in fact nothing much out of the ordinary went by.??!!
Perhaps Conningsby was typed into the “take me there computer”…and all they got back was an error message “place not known”….so all went home ??!! 😉
Clive.
Likewise, wandering off topic… but the Skyvan mention reminded me of one from, I think, the Southern hemisphere that was operating across Lincolnshire a couple of years ago… had some sort of towed or mounted gear.??. magnetometer perhaps or some such..??.. got into all sorts of bother I seem to recall flying through bits of sky it shouldn’t have without having a word first with the “owner” of the sky.??!!.
Back on Bristol Freighters.. happened to be in the right place at the right time many years ago and watched the Instone one trundle over East Lincs, quite low….heading South…possibly en route for Duxford..??

Hello,
Have been puzzling over the year of my first flight… but it must have been mid to late 1980s…in a Skegness Air Taxi Service Ltd Auster (Butlin Bomber) from Skegness Aerodrome… I suspect it would have been G-AJEI or G-AHSO.. although was G-AHAL operating there then .??
I do remember that Mother and Brother went aloft first….and all seemed well, so I had a go too.!!
I tended then to go back for some more over the next few years….G-ATYN, G-AZLH, G-AXNX, G-AHCK, G-AHSO, and my last flight out of the old Butlins airfield in G-BPAW on 7-2-93, just prior to the airfields sad closure.

Cereal packet model.
Hello,
On top of the wardrobe….with peeling stick on transfers…I found one of the cereal packet models. I seem to think it had to be sent away for…having saved some tokens.???
This DH88 was once part of the Spilsby Rail Air Centre (SRAC) collection…which few will have heard of.???!!!
It was sort of Skyfame meets OHB meets Dinting Railway Centre meets the early days of the N Yorkshire Moors Railway…my Hornby Dublo 3 rail figured largely in the reality of this..!!
The collection once included Sea Fury, Bleriot monoplane, Lanc’ nose section, Spitfire 14 and V1…..the Vampire was kept airworthy… sponsored by Sylko for Cotton Thread.. 😉
Clive.
Hope the pictures post ok…haven’t posted such for ages..!!
Hello AgCat,
I returned home to Spilsby from Hornby train spotting in Retford to be told that the Spitfire had just been about….but did get to see it later in the distance to the South.
It also had another run out to Spilsby….which again I sort of nearly missed….heard it approaching from the West…stepped out the front door…I chose to go left…got round the corner of the house looked up and saw a Thruster 600….”making” a Merlin sound.!! ….I continued round the house but still the Spitfire was out of sight..!!
After my full circuit of the house I did just get to see the Spitfire as it went away West over Hundleby..!!
I did give a brief mention in
