Hello Tim,
Interesting your ref’ to Hercules en masse…..
Several years ago in the early hours of either a Saturday or Sunday.??..15 or so Hercules roared over Spilsby, Lincs in trail low level heading North.
I say 15.??….but I reckon I counted 13 or 14..it being the first one that woke me.
I made it to the South bedroom window, flung open the window and all I could see in night sky in the direction of Boston was a stack of aircraft lights…!!
The “stack of lights” was explained as one by one they roared overhead….!!
Returning South a few hours later.
This has been repeated in more recent years..but never quite overhead.!!
Does this tally….or was this a n other happening.??….as the time span involved out and back could have suggested a run to the Scottish Borders..??
All the best,
Clive.
Occasional Binbrook crash gate visitor….and hiding from downpour behind ice cream van at Last Lightning Show.!!
Hello Albert,
G-AHCL is the one linked with the G-OJVC reg’
G-AHCK was bought in to to work the Summer Pleasure Flights after G-AHSO and G-AJEI had been sold on.
AHCK was damaged in an arson attack at Skegness after which AHSO was hired back in from Pat Miller.
The Skegness “Butlins” Aerodrome closed early in 1993..and the bulldozers moved in with undue haste…!!
More in a previous attempt of mine to highlight the good old days at Skeggy….

I have a feeling that AHCK went up Yorkshire way in recent times.??
AJEI is shown with a change of C of A details in progress..??
While AHSO is shown as still with Pat Miller..??
Curious to know their current status…hopefully towards flight.??
All the best,
Clive.
Hello,
Sorry, no floats or skis.!!….but attached anyway..I hope..are 3 photo’s of the good old Auster days at Skegness Aerodrome.
My first flight was in a Skeggy Butlin Bomber too.!!
Does anyone know the status of G-AHSO, G-AJEI and G-AHCK these days.??
I note that G-AJEI has had a very recent change of ownership.
All the best,
Clive.
Hello SeaFuryFan,
I can believe it.!!…several times before now one of the Sixes has caused me to wake the whole household and have me hanging out the bedroom window in the middle night..listening to it rumble across E. Lincolnshire and out across the North Sea.
Thinking on it may be last November since I heard one out and about this way on.??
Send one this way soon please..!!
All the best,
Clive.
Not quite in the same league.?..but last evenings excitement in these parts were 2x A10..not seen them for a while…
Hello Last Lightning…
Good to see the Spitfire this morning…It was over my work location at Gunby at 11-52am heading towards Skeggie and returned West at 11-57am higher and just to the North of Gunby.
I suspect it was the East Kirkby Tr.9.
My father reports it being about over Spilsby this morning about 10-00 ish..
All the best,
Clive.
Now, do I recall a stunt at Finningley ??..might have been Waddington ??….
For quite a while between items an incorrectly parked car was being refered to….there was a final threat to move this if it was not sorted soon….
This moving involved a Puma I think ??…..which carried out the lift but then dropped the car….Austin 1800 I seem to recall ??…..might have been some pyrotechnic involved too as I recall a black smoke ring as the car hit the deck..
Well, I hope it was a funny….and no one posts on about their worst airshow when fathers car got trashed !!
Clive.
Thank you for the reply Veltro… with the information on the formation I saw back in 1983.
I was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time to see the commemorative re-enactment overfly the Lincolnshire coast.
Very sad reading of the tragic loss that subsequently occured in the USA.
Clive.
Now this has jogged my memory… to a formation I saw in the early 1980s.
It could have been 1983 ????
I was working in Skegness…
In from over the North Sea came a formation of single engine trainer types….which had me puzzled….
Long before the days of Forums..a letter was written to Air Britain ???…and the reply came that perhaps what I had seen was the anniversary re-enactment of the first Balbo…??
Was this info’ correct ????
Clive.
Thank you for the replies…
Always curious to know where the DC6 has been on its travels when I’ve been lucky enough to see/hear it.
Thank you,
Clive.
Turn in high speed mixture screw until engine starts to slow, weak….then turn screw out until the engine again slows, rich….then set screw in mid position.
Check to see if engine responds to throttle cleanly..if not open mixture screw by 1/4 turn and…..
Thanks for posting the photos Snapper.
Interesting to see tender first running again….I thought this was a big no,no on the Big Railway…only seen on heritage preserved lines operating under light railway orders….??
On the previous run to Skegness…the orignal thought was that it was to be Diesel hauled from Sleaford to Skegness to save the need for tender first running…but as in your photos Tangmere hauled the train tender first to Skeggy….
Clive.
Here’s one from an earlier trip, 10-7-04, to Sunny Skeggy…’cept it wasn’t sunny !!
Clive.
Thank you for the info’/pictures posted so far…….I was intrigued to find out more after my conversation…as my only memories of Hastings were in their latter years at Scampton serving the Vulcan crew training role..
Thank you,
Clive.
Interesting news….
I think this was the aircraft that visited Lincolnshire a few years ago and did some flights out of Wickenby?? out to Skegness, up the coast and return a couple or more times….I think this may have included a fly through of the current Skegness Aerodrome ??..
It looked and sounded lovely as it came low over Spilsby here…a real treat to see.
Clive.
Perhaps not Historic ??…but the House and Garden is !!
