Thanks Robbelc,
I suspect the AN 22 is the one….have binoculars handy but it tends to hide above cloud every time it has been heard/felt !!
Clive.
Interesting ref the Antonov……..recently (last few weeks, including one day last week) overflying at height just North of Gunby in East Lincolnshire and heading East to coast out we have had a large sounding turboprop with an engine note that I am not familiar with….
It is a very deep slow resonance that can be almost felt and heard for miles …nothing like any Hercules type for instance.
I have not yet managed to sight the aircraft…..!!
Clive.
The memorial is sited near the roadside adjacent to the field in which the crash occured…..on Langham Road in the parish of Mumby.
From the East Lindsey Target Newspaper Wed’ Aug’18th 2004 before the memorial dedication it reports that the rear gunner is thought to have drowned…two crew landed in the sea but made it safely to shore. The third survivor landed in a field near the crash site and was able to raise the alarm at a nearby farm. It is thought that the wireless operator escaped from the aircraft too late to save his life. The pilot and mid upper gunner perished in the crash.
Thank you for your replies and thoughts,
Clive.
Another photo……
Excellent photos of the BBMF Lancaster….thank you for posting them.
Saw her outbound over Gunby Hall, East Lincs this morning 10-16am….
Seen on return 4-45pm over Spilsby…..

Clive.
Neil,
Thanks for the info……it has been quite the normal to see formation Jetstream at higher altitude…… but with this being at lower level I suspected it could be a farewell flypast practise…..
Thanks,
Clive.
The first aircraft I can remember being aware of was the Varsity.
I was told all about the aircraft by a decorator who was painting our house up…he was a Special Constable and got to go on training exercises at RAF Strubby home of the Varsity in this area.
I assume the aircraft were circuiting at Coningsby.
Next was the Argosy………when on radar checking…….My friends at school had all been told by their Dads that is was a car carrier !!……..I used to protest that it wasn’t …and why would a car carrier being circuiting round and round East Lincolnshire !!! I was outnumbered but satisfied myself that I knew better what it was doing…..I think ??
Then came Vulcans…….visiting B52s……..and Lightnings tumbling about clear blue skies……………………………
Clive.
Have posted this one before…..but here it is again…….
Photo found at a postcard fair a couple of years ago…….
Clive.
The old cine sounds really fascinating…..certainly hope someone can incorporate it in perhaps a prequel ….. a video before the 1st in the Pantons series…..Looks like several copies have sold already !!
Attached is a photo that I found at a toy collectors fair……Perhaps someone can fill in the …when it was taken and where etc, etc….??
Clive…
Did Lindsey also operate G-SHOW ……..??
What is known of G-ASTG and G-ASUA…..????
Clive.
Martin,
Thank you for the info on the Airfields-UK-Ireland Forum….
I am curious to know of the source of the list of Airstrips that you posted……
It seems to contain several mis-matches of Grid Ref v’ Lat’ and Long’
I think that the Croft and Poplar Farm entries may be one and the same….the grid refs put them close but then the lat/long separates them….??
Poplar Farm is a Private Strip…..as is Clough Farm.
Ashleys Field is sometimes refered to as “Sloothby International” and takes its name from the late “Big Jim” Ashley-Rogers who established it during his ownership of G-BIHI….again it is a Private Strip.
The Ingoldmells grid ref’ fits the Old Butlins Airfield….. closed in 1993 ….
Puzzled by Burgh Road as its grid ref fits the Southern tip of the current Skegness Airfield …..that is within the Skegness Water Leisure Park (Walls Lane, Ingoldmells, Skegness)….
And Wainfleet…… could that be the Helipad at the Bombing Range ……?????
Thank you for your interest,
Clive.
Going somewhat off topic…..
Another Nord 3202……not sure of its reg’…..at Skegness in 1991……
Is this one still around and about….. ????
Clive.
A side view of G-BIZK …..at Skegness (Butlins) Aerodrome 1991
Yes…..Nord 3202……and why……ask the owner I guess..!!
But I do note that on the CAA G-INFO UK Register site a photo of G-BIZK can be found …..now in yellow and dayglo……
