A proper documentary about the post war military jets, when it seemed like new deisigns were coming out almost monthly. There must be loads of archive material out there

Sadly, by the time the media has covered the Spitfire, Hurricane, Mustang etc ad nauseam; there’s little time and space left for classic jets in spite of the archive material!

In 1996 Paul Lashamar produced a Timewatch film entitled ‘Russias Secret War’ shown on BBC 2 on January 21st of that year.
    That would be worth revisiting.
For me anything which relates to the 1950s and early 1960s Cold War jet aircraft….a hugely neglected area, not only on the air but in magazines as well.

Surely one can’t simply take others work of the ‘net without any permission or acknowledgement….or can they.

Both 800 Squadron and 898 flew Sea Hawks in some public shows. I have some photos and will try and post today.

The photo is dated 6th November 1947. First flight was, I think, the 23rd November. It’s good to read the responses. Thanks.

All over France there are Magisters in various states of preservation. In my area Dinan has one, and Rennes airport has several. Would that there were as many examples of similar vintage aircraft in the UK just ‘hanging around.’
Perhaps there are those who have noticed similar ‘exhibits ‘ at French airfields?

Good idea. I’ll scan some more pages and upload in the next few days. Only one german type I can see and that’s the ME 110 in the page above. Some interesting names though, including MacLachlans
Has anybody a photo of the Phoenix 1? Weren’t there only a couple made?

The name sounds familiar. If only I’d jotted a few things down when I had the chance!

    RT-33

How right you are… and I should have known better!
    Look before you leap!
However how about an exchange re the RT-33 in all air forces.
Attached is a photo of an RT-33 in USAF markings as used in SEA in Operation Field Goal prior to the escalation of the conflictand the arrival of the RF-101s. The airplane flew out of Udorn and Don Muang until the Able Mable Voodoos took over the tac recce in the area.

Try a couple by Wolfgang Samuel: ‘I always wanted to fly’ about Americas cold war airmen; and ‘American Raiders: The race to capture the Luftwaffe’s secrets’ Also he’s just brought out a new one on the B-66 called ‘Glory Days’….well written and interesting books.
