Let us have more details of you “project ” 🙂

I intend to write an article for submission to one of the UK aviation magazines for publication. This article will be an account of 60 and 64 Squadron Javelin operations in the Far East. In my articles I prefer to include information from first hand sources ie people who were involved. Some of you may be familiar with my articles previously published in Flypast, Air Enthusiast and Aeroplane; the most recent of these being in December’s Flypast on the clandestine overflights in the mid 1950s by RF-100s under Project Slick Chick

Any chance your correspondent would post some scans of a few selected pages?

Yes, I have a copy but give me a day or two.
Also my RF-100 article in Decembers Flypast deals with some other clandestine flights.

The overflights in 1952 and 1954 are well documented. Those in 1954 took place on 28/29 April. Three routes were flown simultaneously. If you ever get the chance have a look at the papers for the Early Cold War Overflights Symposium held in Washington DC in February 2001; edited by Cargill Hall and Clayton Laurie, it’s worth it. A complete chapter is given over to the memoirs of John Crampton who was in command of the RAF Special Duty Flight. Four RB-45Cs were repainted in RAF colours for the overflights.

But I’m still no closer to solving the mystery!

‘US Air Force in France 1950 to 1967’ by Lt Col Jerome McAuliffe. A very comprehensive account. Also ‘Cold War Overflights’ the papers of the symposium held in Washington in 2001. Another good read for those interested in the clandestine flights over eastern Europe and China in the 1950s.

    Hi Albert.

You and the rest of Meteor’s enthusiasts will be able to read an article about the history of the Gloster Meteor in the Ecuadorian Air Force and the Aerobatic Team “Aguilas” – Eagles, by going to the next web site:

    http://www.FuerzaAerea.net

then look for the section “Aviones de Combate” . You will find the article dedicated to the Meteors which is also available in english by pressing the flag that is just below of the main picture.

    Enjoy it !

Is the url correct. I can’t find the site and google is no help.

Thanks Anon; but this is strictly a writing project!
And thanks davecurnock for a good starting point. The Vinten F.24 was originally fitted to the FR.9 and since your reply I’ve subsequently found out that it was replaced by the Vinten F.95 Framing camera, which proved a great success and later went on to be used in the Swift FR.5 and the Hunter FR.10

Anyone who’s got anything to add to the FR.9 story please post, including photos.
