PLAN Project 956EM (sovremenny class). photos needed.

    Hi,

I’m looking for photos of Project 965EM Destroyer (Sovremenny Class) of the PLAN, in order to help me to build a 1/700 model.
As far as I know, the Project 965EM has the aft AK-130 main gun removed and the four AK-630 CIWS replaced by two sets of Kashtan short-range air defence gun/missile systems.
The hanger and flight deck were also extended and for that reason the Sa-N-7 Launcher is now placed close to the former location of the fwd AK-130 main gun.
The main radar at the fwd mast has also changed

I would appreciate any help and photos.

    thanks in advance

    Oops, sorry Jon…

Anyhow Ayala, strangely the ship in your picture has AK-230… The one behind it has AK-630M. So not all of them have the AK-630M, that is strange. Any idea if this is the same ship? And when the pictures were taken?

you’re right! I didnt noticed until you mentioned! thanks!
It’s the same with Brahmaputra frigates. Some ships of this class as AK-230 and others AK630!

In fact it seems to exist diferent configurations for ships of the same class!
Probably diferent stages of the upgrade project?

I have no idea at all about the date of these pictures.
The pictures are published at: http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/NAVY/

They are supposed to get Box Launched Brahmos. According to BR

you’re right. The forward P-20M missile cells (port and starboard) aboard INS Rajput have been replaced with two boxed launchers housing four PJ-10 (BrahMos) ASCMs.

A clear photo of the PJ-10 Boxed Launchers:

    more information on BrahMos missiles:
    http://www.brahmos.com/home.html

Another photo with the original 4x AK-630, before the instalation of the Barak Cells on the fwd AK-630 mounts:

beside replacemente of the AK-630 with Barak VLS cells, the fwd main mast radar seems to be of a diferent type…..

I think the MLG 27 is more of a close defence weapon, not a CIWS, i.e. it is intended to deal with small craft, not incoming missiles. Note the absence of a fire control system, other than the person manning the mount!

    Hi
I’ve done some research on the web about the MLG 27 gun and “()….the gun is coupled to an effective fire control system from STN Atlas Elektronik. The thermal imager sensors, the TV camera, laser range finder and automatic target tracking system with a proven video tracker ensure rapid and reliable target acquisition, tracking and engagement. Target tracking, fire control computation as well as gun control are done from a remote operator console….()”
