Great post with some cracking pics – it would grace either forum 😀
How did you get a gig in the Azores by the way?
Was it a trap? I’m sure I read that the now dismissed BA employees responsible approached Virgin and not the other way round. That being said I wouldn’t be surprised if Branson’s boys went along with it knowing they would shop them later.
Still feel a bit sorry for BA however. It is a whopping fine with another to come. The major beneficiary is the treasury who, as it happens, sets the air passenger duty which is designed as a revenue raising exercise in much the same way the airlines add fuel surcharges. And would the fine be so big if it was being applied to Virgin? Doubt it.
THE engine? APU? Oh dear, oh dear…
Hmmm, I wonder when we will get the first moans about DVTs…
SIA operate SIN-EWR with an A345. That is a long old flight. They have to fly in one direction (east-west) because of the northern hemesphere jetstreams. However, I believe the aircraft is business and premium economy only. Eighteen hours without a break in steerage might just be something of a chore, even with SIA who have one of the better economy cabins.
I’ll be in Vancouver next weekend – hope the weather has picked up by then 😀
Money certainly does, Rab. By the way, I’ve never really heard of Citelynx before. I take it they are an ad-hoc charter company  You would have thought they would have painted over the Ansett tail by now 😮
My guess would be that the two cities are just not far enough apart for the route to be appealing to the businessman who would be expected to part with his company’s cash, at least not in sufficient quantities to make the route viable. Leeds City-Kings Cross takes three hours at most. LBA-LCY might only take fifty minutes or so but the LBA is not the most accessible and with check-in and security your total journey time would be getting on for that three hour mark.
I know there is a MAN-LCY service of similar distance but Manchester is a much bigger conurbation so maybe there are enough businessmen there for the route to be viable, even though for most the train is equally as convenient (and a bit cheaper).
Would it not have made more sense to put the team on the 767 and Abramovich on the Canadair
Sounds like an excellent day out 😉 I’ve always felt the same as you about the 146 until my flight last weekend where BA seem to have eeked out some extra space on theirs. The Dash Eight seats aren’t exactly generous in width but with 2-2 seating it seems less of a problem.
Great report 😀
My Gran was from Montreal and she was quite a nice lady, actually……. 😎
I’ve nothing against French Canadains actually. Spent a thoroughly enjoyable holiday in Quebec last year. It is just that those in the service industry can, I’m told, be a bit like their French cousins. I will only be too happy if I’m proved wrong. 😉
An excellent report. The catering on the return trip looks pretty decent.
You know, it wasn’t bad at all. It is obviously not going to win any Michelin stars but for a one hour hop it did the job quite nicely. The beer wans’d bad either 😉
Ah yes… having worked with the occasional Spice Girl from time to time, I can now see the advantage in having those privacy screens between the seats ! 😉 😀
Yeah, without them you could wake up and find Sporty’s bottom in your face and that would spoil the entire experience. Mind you, even that would be better than Baroness Jay’s thick and heavy end…
It all looks very anti-social in there… Do business class passengers at the sharp end typically spend 11 hours ignoring each other ?
It depends. Captains of industry have work to do and can’t be spending valuable time socialising with ghastly footballers and pop singers. On my only trip in BA first class (seat 1A in a 777, LHR-ORD 😀 ) I was sat in front of Baroness Jay. We didn’t socialise. However, there was a bit of socialising going on elsewhere in the cabin. They obviously sussed me out as being an oik who had only paid £15 for his ticket :diablo: Not that I was bothered, I got the jump seat for the climb to cruise and from the top of descent and the pilots were far more interesting than the Baroness and the other well to do.
Nice experience, though 😉
Great Report. Cant wait to see part two and three LOL:)
Erm, part two is the second posting on the thread whilst part three doesn’t exist, unless you want to hear what me and my wife were talking about on the way home 😉
Great report, and hopefully uou won’t refrain from posting more in the future!
Oh, and you inadvertantly let your age slip as well I think. 28L indeed 😀
Ah, fair point. It may well have been an age thing  Actually, if LHR had a 28L the threshold would be closer to Cranebank than a stone’s throw 😀
