Strangely silent on the DLH and Starliner websites…
Very sad news: I hope there is more news to come out, but surely that would have been done at the same time as the closure notice?
Maybe someone can pick up the loose ends. One thing is for sure: Lufthansa will want to recoup as much as possible and so a going project with all paperwork will be worth a great deal more than one that’s been pushed outside for months and left to rot.
But fingers crossed there is another bit of news still to be announced regarding the ‘Germany’ rumours. You’d have to ask which side of the pond is it more safe?
Um…Typhoons? Are we talking about the ‘meh’ Eurofighter which would be like asking if anyone saw those black cabs in London; or did something momentous happen?
“Historic” that is…
Please tell me they’ll be saved! Love the Coronado.
This is no coincidence: just as the penny is dropping with many people, we just happen to have this latest BS. It smacks of a blend of cynical opportunism and desperation.
…while they do the practical stuff instead of posting news of minutely incremental progress maybe?
Not warm and sunny enough for TIGHAR. Plus there is a risk they might actually find something. They like to keep their enviable 0% record intact I think.
I assume it’s in the Atlantic? So what investigation of the crash site exactly? Should be very easy to find after all…
I think we can expect a TIGHAR release, discrediting this latest discovery. I suspect her car is somewhere warmer and sunnier, possibly with a nice beach.
Cue new fundraiser and holidays all round 🙂
This forum’s inability to quote is deeply annoying but anyway…
MFowler said, “All of which might make one wonder, after raising – and spending – millions of dollars over the past three decades, what has TIGHAR actually done?”
Answer: it’s funded a nice lifestyle for key members and that’s all. And certainly nothing that adds in the way of aviation research.
Dismantled or broken up? There seems to be a bit of confusion between the two sometimes…
Typical TIGHAR “attack is the best for of defence” policy. I’d guess that Gillespie now realises that the number of trusting folks who are prepared to fund his lifestyle is dwindling. As others have said, the group has never recovered anything of worth and done little (if anything) in the way of unbiased, scientific research.
It’s a long game, aiming always to gather more cash.
‘TBH and ‘PRR at Elstree, July 1982: can’t recall a third however. Happy days.

Fair points: apologies from an old curmudgeon 🙂
I do wish it well though and really hope it’s all above board.
Excuses, excuses. This is starting to sound just like the a-holes who like to ‘justify’ why they won’t give to the homeless “Oh they’ll spend it on drugs/booze/Viz magazine” etc. Well why not take a leap of faith once in a while and maybe achieve something instead of p1ssing in the wind while a genuinely unique aircraft falls on its @rse?
Or maybe not bother posting negative comments?
