I did have someone tell me once that as I had only gone solo in I glider I could only “almost fly”. I did try explaining that the ground will still come up & smite thee whether you have an engine or not !!

I went mainly digital at the end of last year & haven’t looked back. If you can afford it the Canon D300 with 18-55mm lens is going for £899 from Jessops. You could probably barter with them for a different lens if you want. A 512 Mb compact flash is about £120 or a 1Gb Microdrive is at £250. I can get about three hundred High res Jpegs on my 1GB microdrive in my D60. Thats about 9 films worth in a session, i.e. at about £10.00 for a film incluing developing, it pays for itself if you fill the disc up 3 times (the microdrive that is).

As with all these things shop around. Some of last years Digital SLRs, Canon D30, D60, Nikon D100, Fuji S2, can be found for reasonble prices, i.e. around the £500.00 mark. These give just as good pictures.

I scan my negatives in to my PC & it takes for ever plus you get dust & hairs. This I plugin to download & go & get a cup of tea.

It depends what you mean by alone. Do you mean are there any other life forms out there, no matter what size or level of development. If so, then yes there probably is some form of life out there. If you mean have they developed warp drive, telepathy and sexy cyborg women then I’m afraid that the chances are somewhat less good.

Another point, if intelligent alien life forms do exist and visit us, why is it only Americans they abduct (controversial) ?.

There is an interesting Nasa website on future projects that talks about the energy needed to propel a ship interstella distances. Sadly for the Buck Rogers boys the maths comes out that there probably isn’t enough energy in the universe to have lots of Mega ships whizzing around.
