A Mig 21 cockpit – complete.
Very nice, if only I has space and endless amounts of cash!
Hi Pagen
Sorry I didn’t look at your link properly and reposted the same one. I found that site very good though with all the photos of nearly every Marauder, some great nose art shots.
Paul
A fair way down this link is a photo of a B-26 fuselage being used as some type of trainer
http://www.b26.com/guestbook/2004.htm
and I also found this very interesting photo of scrapped B-26’s in Germany, it appears that their nose legs have been cut off, could be good for your model. The photo is too large to post here.
Paul
There are a few distant photos of scrapyard B-26’s in the book ‘Military Aircraft Boneyards’ at the Cal-Aero field in California. It confirms that they do indeed become tail sitters.

Hi MSphere
Thank you for the suggestions, I have had a quick look at the links and will get in contact with those organisations. I have to admit however that I was thinking more along the lines of scrapmen and surplus dealers as from past experience buying things from aerospace manufacturers is very expensive.
What normally happens to Soviet style aircraft when they are withdrawn from service, they must be broken up or disposed of somewhere.
Paul
Do any of you Fitter experts know where I might be able to get an APS-17 gunsight from, it doesn’t need to be working just externally complete to be used in my Su22 cockpit restoration. Any leads greatly appreciated.
Regards Paul
It that the pilot I see bailing/baling out?
I can’t work out exactly what it is but appears to be something that was outside the aircraft on the other side of the hedge.
As I said previously I have really enjoyed your adventure, thanks for sharing it with us. A lot of people have viewed this thread so take that as a huge compliment.
Paul
Thanks
Well I have to say it is actually quite hard to take a photo of a stick / grip but here are a couple that hopefully people find interesting.
The first is a complete Mig 21 stick and grip in very good condition.
The second is a Mig 29 stick from a Serbian aircraft that was shot down by a USAF F-15 during the Bosnian conflict, unfortunately the grip portion was smashed off during the crash but I really like it especially as both pilots involved have written quite detailed accounts of the event.
Paul
I can post pics of my grips but nothing really rare, Jag, Su22, Mig 21 and Phantom, the first 2 are in cockpits and the last 2 are complete columns that have been removed properly. I can’t offer any advice on spotting fakes though, would also be interested in collecting a few more but not for the prices I regularly see on that online auction site.
Paul
I like the Mig 23, a couple of significant items are missing such as the gunsight and stick. I wonder why they are going to remove the cockpit from the rest of the aircraft, seems strange to me.
Hi Tony
I thought your first post on this topic was very informative, I for one am interested and would like to see more photos and info. It seems like the original aim for this thread has gone off on a tangent so it would be great to see it steered back on track.
Paul
I reckon the engine on the F-16 would have swallowed a decent amount of dirt.
Hello Peter
Thank you for the very detailed and informative posts, I have greatly enjoyed reading about your adventure.
As to the wrecked aircraft at Turtle Bay, I too had heard about it and in fact had a photo from a guide book (maybe Lonely Planet?) of it. I asked our guide if we could see it and he replied that the local chief had actually removed it from the airstrip to protect it a bit, the guide looked up the chief, asked if we could see it and then took us to the wreck you can see me standing on in post #8. It was in a lot worse condition than the photo in the guide book and frankly I couldn’t tell what it is although looking at my photo there is a turret ring so was most likely an Avenger.
