Re ‘jet plane front end’, I like his other item for sale, a metal shredder for 79,000 but there is 1 bid for 99p!
Dr. John Smith
Perhaps you should buy it now before it triples to 45,000! You could then tell everybody about the great bargain you got for 30,000 less than it is worth.
Paul
Are you involved at Bentwaters ?
I remember meeting a chap at Mildenhall many years ago, who gave me a CD of the history of Bentwaters.
He had compiled it over a number of years, with the help of ex-USAF personnel.“Bentwaters, The Living Years” by Graham Haynes
I think you will find that Graham is a member here
Please see my post on the Lightning Cockpit thread about this item, basically it says we should chip in a few bob each to get the thing hung on the wall for the cadets.
Paul
Hi Alan
now RAFCA wont budget us for attaching it to the wall, as it is non-essentail work. so it has become a white elephant.
I would love to have that beautiful peiece of aviation history retained in the sqn, but have no room to store it.
David
So what you are saying is that you would like to keep it, displayed as per the original donators wishes but don’t have the money to attach it to the wall??
What I propose then is this, you pull the auction of this item, I will donate 20 pounds to your squadron, hopefully some other forum members will do likewise, and this will give you the funds to attach it to the wall properly thereby preserving some history at your squadron.
Maybe Alan can chip in a bit as well.
Forum members – what do you think?? It can’t cost that much to hang a bit of wood on a wall, anyone care to drop 5 or 10 pounds into the hat?
Regards
Paul (Australia)
evilbay gets my vote, aerojumbles are very thin (ie non existant) in my part of the world, if I want anything, considering I particularly like jet stuff then the internet is the only way to go. And mind you I am not averse to spending money with 2 cockpit restorations on the go and a further 2 on the way.
Paul
It will get a real atmosphere about it when that Lightning F1 cockpit you mentioned turns up!
looking good Dave
I notice the TV crew standing only 1 foot away and with their backs towards a very deep excavation, that wouldn’t be permitted on any work site I have ever been on.
I am not interested in bidding for this cockpit as I have more than enough on the go at the moment but feel strongly that you may be selling your ATC squadron short by only offering it to people registered on this forum. There are many cockpit collectors and museums in the UK and the world who may be interested and funnily enough they are all not registered here. Offering it wider will undoubtedly bring greater competition and a higher price therefore a better outcome for you.

G’day, I am no expert either! VMF 214 (first as the Swashbucklers and then as The Black Sheep) used a lot of different bases in WW2, they were based at Turtle Bay on Espiritu Santo during June/July 1943 before moving to Banika in the Russell Islands, they moved back to Turtle Bay in August 1943 for a while. All of this info from http://acepilots.com/usmc_vmf214.html and also the book ‘The Black Sheep’ by Bruce Gamble.
I have a photo of the wife and I standing in the middle of the airstrip at Turtle Bay.

I don’t think Dave necessarily meant ‘the continent’ but more ‘other side of the world’
I notice that WK122 went for 3,533 thats a fair bit above the ‘buy it now’ price.
OK, so who’s going to identify these? 😀
Looks like lettuce to me!
Can you PM me your email address, have scanned a map that should be of use to you.
