Thanks for the pointers. I did a search of the PRO but not much of interest to me, maybe Jaguars are still a bit modern.

Count me in for Melbourne as well, since the brits are having a get together maybe we should have one too, maybe at an airshow or museum.

    USFS Cobra

In my view this is still the sleekest looking fire fighting aircraft, it has FLIR mounted where the gun used to be as well as collision avoidance, real time video streaming and lots of other goodies.

I have a vague recollection of reading (a few months ago) on another forum that the two at AMARC have had their engine mounts cut to make them unflyable – I could be wrong though.

Dare I say it??? What are the logistics/possibilities of converting A19-144 to a Merlin engine version. Is it worth it to see one flying again?

…and there are no better u-boats to be had…anywhere!

Without doing a search for their numbers I believe there are 2 very complete and original U-Boats. One is in Germany and was presented to them by Norway who used it after WW2 and the other is in the US (Chicago or Boston or somewhere).

He also has a lesser known book called ‘Flames in the Sky’ which is a series of short stories about little heard of aerial combats from around the World.

    Hello Jim

Thanks for the link, it would have been awesome to see that flying at 1000mph less than 100m from the ground, then again you may not have seen much at all!

Octane130 – I am envious that you did get to see it flying

Talk about coincidences, I saw a photo of this aircraft in a book I was browsing through in the local book shop this morning then come home and see it again. The book was about the Messerchmitt Me209 which held the absolute speed record for 30 years. There was also a couple of photos of Daryl Greenamyer’s Bearcat which broke that record in 1969. Daryl also had a plane called The Red Baron but it was an F-104 he had built from odd parts and in which he set the ultimate speed record, if anyone has a photo of this I would love to see it as I have been unable to find any.

Here are a couple more pics, the last one is the stand by sight presumably used if the HUD went U/S

Nashio966 – yes that is the one, I managed to track down the pilot flying it at the time (with help from people on this forum) who sent me some photos of the damage, the wing was pretty mangled.
XM692 – the only reason I can think that it wasn’t spares recovered too much is that it was in storage for a while and then used as an instructional airframe, by then most of the other jags would have been upgraded to 1a or 3 standard. It was purchased from Everett Aero who have been very helpful to me.

    Jaguar GR1 XX977

Here are some pics of my Jaguar cockpit, it only arrived last week so I am still exploring it and finding lots of goodies. Brief history is that it came on strength of 31 Squadron RAFG from new and served with them until a collision involving a telecommunications tower in 1984, deemed too costly to repair it was stored for a while then used for battle damage repair training before being sold. I like it because it still has all of the RAFG markings and is fairly complete.

If anyone knows of a source of Jaguar spares or possible leads to some then I would like to hear from you, the first thing I am after is a couple of the rubber straps that assist the canopy opening – with them just going out of service there should be a supply of new stock around somewhere.

    Regards Paul

    Hello Paul.
Any chance you could post the pic and info on your cockpit on the instrument panel and cockpit project thread also?

Yes I will do, give me a few days and I’ll take a good pic of the interior as well, things are a little hectic here at the moment.

My memory of the show is not so good as I was only young then but I swear the wreck he went to was a B-24. I remember him saying that some people thought the oxygen cylinders were bombs.
