Well I would think twice about pulling on a Nazi uniform, and apart from the obvious size issues, wouldn’t put on a Jap uniform for all the tea in China; attrocities were comitted before, and after WW2, but nothing compares to the organized genocide perpetrated by Nazi Germany.

Should have stayed for the violins……sadly no jeeps or A/C engines (as hoped for by the diggers)

I really dont want to start a debate on the Radio active issue but in my opinion as a threat to your health its the biggest load of B****ks ever invented by H&S.
The only ever recorded cases of health issues were by the Girls who painted the faces of instruments during the War.
Nos 1 the paint was new and at its most dangerous.
Nos 2 they were surrounded by huge ammounts of dust.
Nos 3 they actually used to paint their teeth with the stuff and lick their brushes to keep the point sharp.
Therefore they injested loads of the stuff and even then not all became Ill.
There is not one single case of aircrew or pilots suffering any Ill effects even after hundreds of hours sat in front of these instruments, very many who did hundreds of hours live into their 90s with no sign of radiation poisoning.
Therefore if sitting in a cockpit for five minutes or even twenty with instruments that are 60 years old is dangerous I should be dead a hundred times over.
So far my hair has not fallen out nore have my teeth, nor have i grown any extra bits anywhere on my body and trust me my exposure to instruments is considerable.

However, as a very nice chap at the c0ckpit festering once said, the risk of exposure to radium is very real, many of the Battle of Britain pilots are losing their hair, and their teeth, and some have actually died….

Tim Moore from Skysport acquired (outbid me!) on the fabric Hurri wing that was in Chippenham Scrapyard…maybe he still has it? Say hello to Paul Rogers from me,

!!!! I don’t have any fabric wing parts, but if I did, the last person on earth to get their hands on them would be Paul Rogers.

Harsh! Why do you say that? The Paul I know is dedicating a lot of time and his own money to a very worthwhile cause. So much so, he can’t actually afford an apostrophe in his name.

I’ve just found an old thread, from well before I joined – “Hurricane rebuild & Fury Replica – Cambridgeshire Bomber & Fighter Society” – you have a long-standing hatred, don’t you? To give an answer to your post on that thread Andy, if you’re reading this – it IS a data-plate plus-some-bits serial identity (but definitely NOT just an ‘applied’ serial).

Edit – Thinking about it Stuart, don’t explain it on here – I don’t want this thread closed – it sounds like it might get libellous, from what you say in your edit.

Not wishing to financially darken Mr Rogers any further, I have removed the heavy burden of the apostrophe.

The man in question had me over on some Merlin parts, not only did the protracted “deal” (over 2 years) not produce all of the parts outlined in the original Barnstormers ad, but the quality of the items was so bad, that only the crankcase and blower are usable (the wheel case that attaches the former to the later was supplied with only 2 bolt holes left on it).

The rocker covers weren’t even a pair, the port side had the rear section of a stbd one grafted on it (badly) they are not symmetrical, the stbd one was so badly warped that it fitted on the inside of the studs (along the outer edge) both had a newly made Rolls-Royce name plate welded on and blended in with, surprisingly not filller, but plaster of paris……I could go on but I think you get the idea.

Perhaps by the latter stages of the war, the British and Americans knew that Germany would have to have an army occupation, to combat the threat posed by Russia, and didn’t fancy doing that amidst the radioactive fallout.

Or they knew that Hitler had already bu66ered off to Argentina, and subsequently the body the the Russians recovered, and held in total secrecy for over 60 years, was in fact that of a young woman!

Many years ago an aquaintance of mine used to run the York diesel in his Ford Tranny on fuel that was intended for Tornados… 😉

Wouldn’t have made any difference, as you couldn’t get them started on any fuel…..

I always thought didikies was spelt didykoi, derived from didy“ou used to have any koi in your pond, coz me and my brothers stopped by last night with a big net…..

    Don’t underestimate them!

In 2004 NAM lost several thousand square metres worth of cladding for its Hangar 2 project – carried off site by hand, over a secure 2m barbed wire topped fence (no apparent break-in) – all in the space of little over 8 hours.

All eventually located at a ‘site’ just off the A17 towards Leadenham – but guess what nobody knew who owned the lock-ups that it was all stashed in!!

Latest ruse is to just turn up at site – try to drive through gate and go looking for scrap! When challenged they can never remember the name of the person that asked them to come and collect the scrap. Forgetful lot aren’t they.

Trails of blood (hands cut on edges of sheets) showed the exit route – not worth trying to get DNA samples though! No, as it is the same DNA signature for everyone of them (not that I’m suggesting any in breeding)……..

Well lets be honest, if you go to a property auction, you are hoping to get a bargain, there are plenty of houses to purchase through conventional means; an auction is an auction, on line or otherwise.

I suspect they realised after a while that mild steel rotted out, so switched to Inconel….

    but I may be wrong!

Actually I think it was the other way round, the mild steel ones were a later fitment, presumably cheaper to make, they did burn out, but were just changed out!
