I offered them £3k for one of those Seahawks (in 2000), and to crane it out of the compound myself after removing all items that might be needed to support the flyer; I’m sure they’ve done better than that.

Yes, the culprit is the media and not one or other school of history. Take it from me as someone who works with the gentlemen of the press that we should expect little more. I can tell you now, if ye seek the truth don’t bother looking in TV documentaries, however scholarly and reliable they may seem.

Can I suggest James and Stuart settle any remaining differences like gentlemen, I think the BBMF can provide the weapons – Night Reaper for JDK and a Vb for Stuart. Place your bets…

Learning to behave as a gentleman may take me a while yet, as supposidly thats what I’ve been trying to do for the last 45 years…we have agreed ,essentially to disagree, and for my part I have learned a hard lesson, that being, don’t argue with someone who types with more than one finger!!

It’s not a soapbox its a bannana skin and the above comments (by me) were also tongue in cheek (in part) ;I don’t use smilies ,and as a result run the risk of misinterpretation, but hell live dangerously I say!

If the proposed eco taxes are as punitive as it seems they will be, then that will stop the b*gger flying, along with all the other “gas guzzlers”, and we will all be queing up to see Melvin’s Beaver (!), and Moggy’s Piper, and I’ll be late, coz I won’t be able to afford to drive my hugely uneconomical “common rail direct injection” 4×4 ,and you can’t ride a push bike up the M11.

I thought the “free loading thread” was closed…. Given that at any Duxford airshow, there are people leaving before the flying starts, (its true I’ve seen it) and that maybe up to a third leave before the flying finishes (true also ,even I do sometimes) and that the area is heavily policed, how many people will either bother, or indeed be allowed to “park up” and free load?

This A/C should, if the collective realists were right ,be ,residing in a “skip” by now,the fact that is not, is maybe down to those much vilified optimists who have put their hands in their pockets; one could argue that if the Vulcan does fly, and people who were aware of the campaign, and had the oportunity to contribute, but didn’t, get to see it fly, they are free loading themselves, so it is their duty to go home early from whichever airshow they are attending.

You’ll be lucky, with people allready whineing about the cost of getting in to certain airshows!! and what if you wont pay the supplement??? will you be blindfolded and forced to wear ear diffenders durring the Vulcan display :diablo: As with anything to do with the Vulcan flying again, totaly unrealistic

Although, an airshow might finish at its scheduled time, those without a “Vulcan pass” would leave as per the norm, then after a suitable time to allow most of the visitors to leave, the Vulc would roll in (no pun intended), perform its display to the select few, and off into the sunset.

This wouldn’t cost the organisers anymore to set up, as all volunteers would still be in place fire crews etc, and those who had left would have had a full display for their money; the “Vulan pass” would be a prepaid arrangement, and if the minium no. required were not sold, the A/C would be cancelled, and moneys returned.

I don’t think that this is the way forward, and certainly the A/C wouldn’t reach it’s target audience, but it is at least a part solution .

Perhaps it should be retitled “Red tails & Rednecks”, if last nights film is anything to go by.

It’s true, school children don’t know b*gger all about the BoB, but I was pleasantly suprised to hear some under 10’s shout out “IT’S A SPITFIRE!” a year or so ago, whilst I was visiting D*xford (self censored so as not to enraged the moderators), on seeing the mk V in the TFC hangar.

Another point worth remembering, is that not every Spitfire was painted perfectly, or even totally accurately, especially during the BoB, when comunication between squadrons (and the high command) was sporadic, to say the least.

It is important, (I think) to get the paint schemes right in this day and age, but it is also worth remembering, that the RAF also uses the “yard broom” for refinishing, when it’s in a hurry!

Some of the early Spitfires had that shape BFP so it could be a …….$$$$$$$$pitfire; ker-ching!!

The seat is reminiscent of spitfire, but underneath doesn’t have the integerally formed attachment points for the “subframe”, so Defiant seems most likely.

It is definately Spitfire, in fact I think I can just make out the initials DB scratched into the seat back, and the damage on the port side, is consistant with tin leg impact , as the struggling pilot finally frees his trapped leg from underneath the rudder pedal.

seriously though, having made one from the drawings the support channel underneath, is not right, and there is nowhere to attach the seat frame mounts.
