It was always my understanding that the Centaurus 173 from a Beverley would neither service nor fit dimensionally the Centaurus 18 installation of the Seafury. That said I would imagine there would be some common parts.

Yes ,I’ve heard that too; although I’ve only seen the one I mention so no comparison is available; weren’t the later centaurus engines fuel injected? maybe they are physically longer as a result of that.

I’ve been told that its the sleeve valves that seize ,which seems reasonable as the inlets are exposed to air (damp) penetration; nice sounding engines but engineering madness, (although less so than the sabre).

Theres a centaurus from one of the Beverleys in a field about 2 miles from me, I looked at it a few years ago ,apparently it is seized, which seems to be an afliction of these engines; he had it on ebay with a starting bid of £450- ,but no takers.

Didn’t they have some “stuff” stolen, which they believe was stolen to order?

“You sir, have the honour of being the catalyst that causes me to once again depart your little club”

A worthy accolade ,well done that man.

In addition, any microscopic shred of credibility Mr. Williams’ story had was completely negated by his aggressive, obnoxious, rude and insulting manner with anyone who (quite understandably) showed the slightest glimmer of doubt as to it’s authenticity.

I’d forgotten quite how unpleasant the fellow could be until now.

You must also question the mental state of anyone who can mistake Stuart Gowans for a school-kid! 😀 Oh, how I laughed! 😀 😀

Sorry Stuart! See you at Shoreham? (assuming your Mum will let you go of course :p )

Mum says I can go, but I must promise not to play with the rough boys….

As I recently commented, I think “being there” has everthing to do with objective historical analysis, the difference being that, if these “events” at the Stork hotel were recorded impartially at the time of their “occurance,” they would now be part of the accepted version history; essentially this is an attempt at revisionism, unsubstantiated , and incredulous.

You know, I don’t know what is worse, the fact that this thread has deterioated into verbal abuse ,or the fact that all the best “Carry On” one liners have already been used! (ooh I dunno though)

Sir, if I wasn’t falling about laughing at Amateur Night at the Palladium I might be tempted to be upset. Let me say this Sir !!!

    I resemble that remark.

    😀

The funny thing about comedy is (if you’ll pardon the pun) that there are no qualifications in the subject , and even if there were what would something like a NVQ (not very qualified) prove?

The fact that you are “falling about laughing” is enough for me, as an amateur, but I do think you have a contradiction in terms ,with amateurs and the London palladium, as I believe they only book professionals.

And yes you do resemble that remark!

Ben, I am not at present thinking of an armament fit, as I reckon it’ll be hard enough just building the wings without all the various brackets required for the guns ; and as a mkIX I’d need a couple of cannons as well!!

QLD, I bet your gun laws are less draconian than ours; deactivation over here used to mean removing the firing pin, now its removing everything else other than the firing pin!

Only problem with the browning is that to slot the barrell properly, you have to unscrew it from the receiver, and to do that you have to straighten it, because as it turns, it fouls the heat shield around it ,which in turn is pinned to the receiver, but the pin can’t be driven out until the barrell is removed, which can’t be done unless it is straight……

I started out with a relic, and by the time I’d finished deact’ ing it ,it was more usable than it was to start with!

Gentlemen. Airey Neave was with MI9 after escaping from Colditz in 1942. Food for thought, with his later political career and influence…..

I live next to Julius Neave (across the fields) ,who I believe is Airey’s brother I would ask him his opinion, but I know for a fact that the land between us is mined , and the barbed wire that is there seemingly to keep the sheep in, is in fact carrying a very high voltage; in fact I am suprised that Mark 12 was able to get close enough to his house, to take the picture posted on this thread, what with all the guard dogs, and search lights…

Serious discussion ? And here I was under the impression that the whole thing was a wind up from beginning to end. 😀

Navvies with shovels claiming to be archaeologists, real archaeologists told in no uncertain terms by the navvies that their “hawwwkkk spit!!!!” professional qualifications are not worth a pinch of dried sparrow poop.

A whole TV show made and broadcast about not finding the legless one’s Spitfire.

Someone claiming that the legless one actually spent some of his war service in a hotel in Liverpool at the expense of the Germans and the British.

Various others claiming various other things. Two noted authors having a bit of a set too over who did what and to whom.

Tell me when’s the film coming out – it’ll be a scream. It’s a pity that the Marx Brothers are no longer with us.

    🙂

    Actually they are just finalising the details, r.e who will play who in the film;

problem seems to be that all the actors aproached so far, have refused the part of the egotistical academic archaeologist, who’s abrasive condescending attitude towards people, leaves them (the actors) with a feeling , that to play such an overtly nasty piece of work, would be harmful to their careers.

In contrast, they are queueing up to play Bader, as by comparison, DB appears to be a warm human being ,who never held a grudge, and definately wouldn’t keep on about something, when clearly no one wanted to hear it.
