See what I mean £160- for a priceless piece of heritage ,not a lot when you think that you could build a compete A/C from that piece ,it giving just enough credibility ,to ensure you were the envy of your ….er, ..self !!
T’aint Harvard matey thats why I ask – I know the T-6 series pretty well…
Not much of 248 – a few battered panels thats all, mostly scrap, one panel ebayed and went to Airframe Assys.
The reason I know it was 248 is cos it had an original stencil marking on it (yes I do know the difference between a fake and original :p ) ‘TD248’ in yellow paint….
Thanks anyway guys
TT
Ben, I think you’ll find I might have been a touch facetious !! (yes I had to look it up!!) I’m suprised that you didn’t give me all your spit bits, rather than wasting your time putting them on ebay – they never make anything you know!!
Perhaps it Harvard, if it came out of a box with spit and harvard bits therein..
The windscreen extended well forward of the normal windscreen ,by as much as 12” that allowed a more gracefull curve (streamlined) aero dynamic (I’ll get there in a minute!!)
To my mind ,the best that could happen is that they add colour to the original using the friese greene (spelling?) technique, anyone see that on BBC recently? The performances by Richard Todd and Michael Redgrave are so good ,that they will never be bettered, and any cgi, will ensure I never watch it, as the only thing worse than poorly built/ filmed models, has to be cgi which is so fake, that actual events (true life stories) are reduced in the mind of the watcher to the level of star wars ,(it doesn’t matter how exciting it gets ,deep down we know its not real).
Wasn’t there a move to convert at least one 57/58 griffon to single prop shaft? they are only single stage aren’t they , but they are two speed ; what mark were the XV Seafires griffons originally ? and how do they compare with the 57/58’s.
Does each tee shirt come with a free migrant worker inside? for delivery purposes of course; Still think the best thing for the “connie” is gate guardian duties at RAF Felixstowe, pole mounted at an oblique angle possibly with one door slightly open in original Hanjin sqn markings what a sight
Area 51 becomes even less accessible
Is it a well known forum members ebay purchases from last year? (they say 6 weeks ,but surely nobody believes them!)
Looks like a barometer… sorry is that not silly enough? not from a Hawker Heart are they?
I think the real question is whether the container should be made airworthy ,and loose most of its originality; (rebuilt from its ISO plate upwards) or should it remain in its original condition as a static display, although if left out side ,the British climate…..
Maybe it contains 100,000 inflatable spitfires and a million rubber dog poos for sale on the stalls?!!
Can I take it that you are less than impressed with the quality of the mechandising at your typical Dx airshow; I think they do a very nice line in see through RAF ensigns, and kiddies flying jackets made from inside out poodles; (probably humanely starved to death)
according to drawing no. 35033/ sht 6 (which incidently is the same as 30033/sht 6 )the elevator drum rear mount is on the front of frame 9 and no part of it extends beyondthe C/L except some of the nut; the only reference point given is that the top mountion hole is 25” below the C/L of the datum
I know the chap that took it into Halton originally. Indeed it was looking a bit sad back then.
Suspect it will take loads of wonga and even more TLC to get it back to what it should be (and even there some folk scratch their heads deciding what it was in the first place).
I believe there is a skunkworks at the eastern end of Duxford that could probably sort it. Just find a rich uncle first.
I,m suprised at that ,as when I was there a couple of months ago , “it looked so pretty to me” (just like it always did ) like the spanish city…..
Is it me ,or does that white lump (crane) look like Concorde, without the wings sitting on top of the containers?
