Never mind the S6b – what about a Macchi MC72 with twin Griffons but minus the floats?:diablo:

Better off leaving the floats on ,and removing one of the griffons….

The S6b could be fitted with U/C that didn’t fully retract into the wing, like some Yaks (retracting rearwards), but the real question is would the wings be strong enough to take the load, as the floats were anchored on the fuselage; my guess is that they wouldn’t.

A real contender would be the Mustang being developed by Rolls Royce,(a picture of which can be found in Bill Gunstons book on the maker) which had a mid engined Griffon installed, and a short nose and long spinner, giving the front of the A/C a look not unreminiscent of a Sea hawk.

Phantom Phixer, there speaks the voice of experience!!

I’ll not add any more, to the list but the definition of compressor wouldn’t be complete without mention that ” machine will start randomly, (even though you thought that you’d switched it off) and will scare the sh!t out of you ,when youv’e gone out to the workshop late at night!….

All the wing ribs are measured from a vertical datum point where it intersects the horizontal datum; I can give you the mac drg numbers of those I have, and you can purchase them from hendon, at about £ 2ea (thats about $85 Aus!!); I may have a few spare copies myself if I look hard enough.

As far as I can see none of the wing measurements relate to the fuselage C/L.

    Ah. ‘High Flight’.

With the 20 series museum Spitfire that still defies identification…fifty years on. 🙁

It has been discussed before but is still not resolved.

Seems perfectly straight forward to me, even got the word “Spitfire” on it, to help you make the right decision!!

Although not for discussing the Oskosh accident, if I may use that as an example; having read the account of the accident, and then seen the picture, inevitably questions came to mind, as the image from the text didn’t tally (in my own mind) with the actual image.

I refrained from asking the questions, not out of respect (although that should not be seen as evidence that I have none) , but because the general feeling (set by a moderator) was one of a veil of silence; these were people that lived and breathed aeroplanes, and had the boot been on the other foot, would probably have been asking similar questions themselves, (its what we do (some of us) to come to terms with events such a these).

Had there been a major fault with one or both of the the planes, people (all around the world) would be anxious that their A/C were not affected, and keeping a lid on it until the air accident people have made their findings public, in maybe a years time, isn’t the way to achieve this.

What I am not advocating is idle speculation, or half baked theorys, merely trying to reach an understanding, my view is that if this can’t be accomplished, without upsetting people, then if the event has to be reported on the forum ,that the thread is locked immediately, without further comment.

My favorite signature is, ” Why sit on the fence, when you can rip it down and build a soap box” from the late Steve Young; a man after my own heart.

I know senility is setting in, but I’d swear that there was a post suggesting the use of the replicas as gate guardians after the film is complete – particularly at Scampton.

And I’m sure I replied pointing out that the replicas might not be full size 3D.

    Now there is nothing.

Please tell me I’m not going mad?
