Pete, just had a look at what a gold pass entails, “cloakroam facilities” ,a euphemism for a toilet that you can use, without standing in a puddle ? that and the “dedicated on-site parking with a separate entrance””, might be worth an extra £40-ea, as no one likes to queue for either of them; you might as well go all the way and pay for the buffet lunch, as the more of a “day out”, that you can make it , the less it feels like an “anorak/step ladder” experience.
It would seem that the worst fears of many a Spitfire owner have been realised, and that the value is falling, proportionally with the numbers being restored; price drop tv channel anyone?

What should I do, leave it as it is or clean it up paint it ect.
Nice to have a big lump of spitfire either way:)
An identical leg is on ebay at the moment; one of a pair?
15k is quite a bit more….
I’m sure that in the case of the arm band, there will be a record of British competitors in the 36? games, but to prove this particular arm band was the actual one presented by AH, (given that there were a few about at the time), will be difficult; another question would be, “why didn’t it stay in the family” (I believe there are relatives).
Yes , actual proof will be very hard to come by, but as someone who pm’d me said, it was not unusual (steady tom) for a pilot to have anything up to 5 sets of wings, so the idea that he lived and died in one set may be right, but also he would have had others (not just a set on dress uniform).
A friend of mine has a swastika arm band given to a competitor of the Munich games ,the old boy has now gone but, was presented with it personally by Adolph Hitler; my friend is now in his mid 70’s and there is a real danger that the paper trail on this one will be lost , and that it will become just another Nazi arm band that was “personally presented ” by AH.
As a matter of interest, how much did he pay?
exmpa
I’m not sure he would want me to say , but my intended bid of £100- wouldn’t have bought them!
Just been contacted by the purchaser of “Guy Gibsons” wings, he would very much appreciate any help in authenticating them, (or any ideas as to how that might be achieved); I gather he has had a few problems registering on this forum, but hopefully this will be sorted out.
I’ve used builders expanding foam in tyres, but light loads only, I would think that a heavy A/C will cause the foam to deform, and the tyre with it creating the same problems as loss of air pressure.
So you probably wont want to hear what I’ve got to say, then….
I think £8k (reserve not met) is a bargain, you couldn’t build one for that; recently a fuel gauge made £450, an U/C indicator £1000-, a flap lever £1100,trim gauge £800-,spade grips £800 to £2.5k, canopies £500 to £1200.
I know why he didn’t build the rest, anyone who thinks the rest is easy ,should try it, not much in the rear fuselage granted, but the wings …. theres a bit going on there! (oh did I forget to mention the engine, bearers, cowlings, prop hub ,blades ,spinner!!)
Dont forget Mart u would have some lovely pilots notes to make reference to IF you remembered to drop me an addy LoL I could imagine anything based on them from you would be upto your usual standard……… absolutely frickin amazin (and no I aint teckin the mick 😀 )
To coin a well known phrase, “Now then Now then” I think everyone here knows my usual tastes but I think I might surprise you all now, if I had that sort money to spare, it would be mine, oh yes 😀 Ok time to embarass myself now, I used to have a Spitfire Cockpit Duvet 😮 Bex
I’ve still got mine…
Maybe Colin will tell us all about it, a bit later; I hope it makes a bit more than it is at the moment, because its only round the corner, and very tempting.
I take my hat off to him, (who ever he is), it looks *******ing amazing, the attention to detail, is almost breathtaking (the B**tard), just the sort of thing you want to see ,after a hard days graft trying to put the rear spar web in, sat in the fuel tank bay; “will it be at cockpit fest?” theres more chance that one will, than mine!
The main problem with yellow would be that the Spitfire would be difficult to spot among all those yellow Tiger Moths…
And all those important types with their hiviz vests on…
