Did Argentina have the MEKOs back then? Tought they got them a little later………..I think they still had a couple of FRAMs………Thank god the Argies didn’t wait a year……Britain would have gotten rid of Invincible, and Argentina would have had all 14 SuEs and alot more excocets!

How very close Britain and Argentina came to a classic ww2 style carrier on carrier fight! Vienticinco de Mayo was 100 miles from the Brit task force, had 7 “bombedup” skyhawks on deck with pilots in the cockpits……..and the excuse they put up latter for not launching was they couldn’t get enough wind over the deck! Must have been a very calm day! Theoreticaly de Mayo could do 24knts…..so say she could do 20…….AND she had a steam catapult, the A-4Qs had 3 500 lb snakeeyes…….Could that “no wind” excuse be valid?

And 100 ICBMs LEVEL Europe and Russia………..Seriosly…….Does ANYONE think the leaders in Europe would have the stones to spend the Euros that putting that many ships to sea would cost?! And what of the sailor’s unions?

Agreed…and NOT have RAF aircraft fly off it…….It seems to me that once these ships are under construction, there will have to be a MASSIVE increase in the size of the FAA. And right now, I just cannot see the Brits doing that. Britain is cutting it’s military to the BONE and I just don’t believe they will get both of these ships and the airwing, up and running…….The Sea Harriers are getting axed and I can just see what will happen when the RN goes to purchase their new F-35s…….the MOD will say “you havent needed fighters for years since you got rid of the Sea Harriers, so obviously you don’t need any now”.

Any thoughts on making a carrier capable JAS-39? That plane looks pretty small and rugged………or how bout an upgrade to the A-4s…….multi-mode radar and MICAs?
