Russia delays Superjet deliveries to end 2010
MOSCOW, Feb 9 – Russia will start deliveries of its Superjet 100 aircraft by the end of 2010, a senior official said on Tuesday, just a week after the deadline was pushed to the second half of this year.
“First planes should arrive at the end of 2010,” Deputy Transport Minister Valery Okulov told Vesti 24 television channel without elaborating. The initial deadline was for end 2008. Alexei Fyodorov, head of the government-owned United Aviation Corporation , said last week deliveries would be postponed to the second half of 2010 from the first half of the year.
Fyodorov previously blamed engine producers for the delay of Russia’s first passenger jet project since the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991.
UAC is the owner of Sukhoi — best known for making fighter jets — which is developing the Superjet 100 in partnership with shareholder Finmeccanica SpA , an Italian aerospace and defence group.

United Aircraft Corporation has re-launched production of the An-124 transport at a ceremony in Russia.
There is no reference for Ukraine. The production was only re-launched in Russia?
Nelson Jobim made a very small and friendly (and unfortunate) comment to a Russian delegation (interestingly enough, he also mentioned Alenia and Typhoon). That coment was blown all out of proportion by the press. It´s not the first time that Nelson Jobin has a “lapsus linguae”, and it wont be the last.
The Russians at LAAD2009 in April, confirmed that they didnt delivered a renewed offer to the FAB.
The SU-35 is out of the competition, it wasnt re-evaluated, same for Typhoon and Viper.
Yes, most probably it is nothing, but we don’t know what is happening at political levels.
This news appeared, Jobim have talked, the FX-2 is a long delayed contest and even the MI-35 purchase from Brazil is for me a little obscure.
i cannot avoid to think if there is something playing at politic level.
The only “indications” are claims by Russians, which are either ignored or denied by Brazil.
No.
what i am refering is the declarations of defense minister Nelson Jobim, indicating that SU-35 was being reevaluated (February 2009), and at that time was already defined who was inside FX-2 and SU-35 was not one of the planes.
Indeed
But it is not the first time that appears indications that Russia still have a foot there.
Russian firm says confident on Brazil fighter jet deal
Moscow, Oct 2, 2009 (AFP) –
Russia’s state arms export firm voiced optimism on Friday about winning a multi-billion-dollar Brazilian fighter jet tender despite rival bids from French, US and Swedish aerospace companies.
The strength of the Russian offer is that it would allow Su-35 fighter jets to be built in Brazil, fulfilling a key Brazilian demand, said Anatoly Isaikin, head of Rosoboronexport, which holds a monopoly on Russian arms exports.
“Our offer has a broad programme of technology transfer — a full cycle of work on technical service, repairs, all the way to organising the manufacture of Su-35s in Brazil,” Isaikin told the Interfax news agency.
The offer submitted by Rosoboronexport to Brazil’s defence ministry earlier this year “has maximum compliance with the Brazilian demands,” he said.
A spokesman for Rosoboronexport, Vyacheslav Davydenko, confirmed that the Russian offer would allow Su-35 fighters, developed by Russian aircraft maker Sukhoi, to be built in Brazil.
“We think our plane has many advantages and we have good chances of winning the competition,” Davydenko told AFP.
Brazil is seeking to acquire 36 combat aircraft to replace its ageing fleet of 12 French-made Mirage-2000 jets.
The contract is worth an estimated four billion to seven billion dollars, making it one of the biggest defence tenders in the world.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who wants his country to become one of the 21st century’s major powers, has insisted that the winner agree to transfer technological knowhow so Brazil can acquire the specialized knowledge to build its own independent defence industry.
France’s Dassault, which has put forward its Rafale fighters, has been seen as the frontrunner due to its offer of technology transfer and longstanding military links between France and Brazil.
But it faces competition from US aviation giant Boeing, which has offered Brazil its F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter, and Sweden’s Saab, which has been talking up its Gripen NG aircraft.
Meanwhile Russia has been eager to find new export markets for its weapons and military equipment, one of the few areas where Russian manufacturing has enjoyed strong sales abroad in recent years.
Russia has signed billions of dollars’ worth of arms contracts with Brazil’s neighbour Venezuela, including for the delivery of Sukhoi fighter jets to Caracas.

Boeing Halted Work on 787 Sections Due to ‘Wrinkles’
Aug. 14 (Bloomberg) — Boeing Co. said it stopped work more than a month ago on two sections for the 787 Dreamliner after tiny wrinkles were discovered in the composite-material fuselages supplied by Italian vendor Alenia Aeronautica.
The flaws were found on 23 airplanes, starting with the seventh in production, Boeing spokeswoman Loretta Gunter said from Everett, Washington, where the 787 is being assembled. A solution has been designed and “it’s not expected to be a long time” before patches are applied to all the planes built so far, she said…

New planes
i have already asked once, but again i see references to new TU-160.
In 2007, Vladimir Putin decided to resume regular missions by strategic aviation to remote parts of the world. It was also decided to restart production of Tu-160s and increase the air force complement to 30.
