Bruce, you say that “we built up Mk XIV NH799 in six months flat, from a kit of parts” which raises a question or two:
Was the “kit of parts” ready for assembly or did it need work to be done?
How many people were assigned to the project?
Every time i click on a thread, as soon as the threads page opens my screen scrolls straight down to the very bottom of every page.
This is not the only forum with this or similar problems. When you click the title, it should take you to the first post (to the start of the tread). If you click the arrow to the left of the title, it should take you to the first unread post.
From my post above:
I have set the forum to “automatically detect DST settings” but the change from summer time to normal depends on the location of the server. (This year one week earlier in Europe compared to the U.S.A.) Now, where-ever the server is located, it should have changed to normal time but it is still summer!
Now, it’s winter!

Aren´t there a few other Tempest projects put on hold for several years/decades? Is there a common denominator as to why none of these projects sees completion?
Thanks, Matthias, for your response!
I posted a reply, no pictures, a few minutes ago. A preview was instantly displayed and posting took a few seconds of “churning”. The thread was immediately updated with my post. Not that bad, I think!
Matthias,
Thanks for all your updates to this thread!
Do you have any thoughts regarding the “shaky” reliability of the Centarus? Browsing the web, one can pick up any and all speculations as to the reason.
One reason is said to be the non-availability of the correct engine oil. It was specifically developed for the sleeve valve engines and is no longer produced. None of the oils available today fills the requirements/specifications.
Another reason is said to be the lack of skilled/trained rebuilders/service personell. The knowledge how to assemble and service these engines are fading away along with the guys who were there when the engines were in service.
I’m sure you have had this discussion and I hope you’ll share your thoughts.

Well, that’s old news. I have the “.co.uk” addy in my archive and it doesn’t work but if I recall correctly, the “.com” addy has been around for years!

As English is not my native language, I had to go google on that expression. I found “slack” to mean “having or showing laziness or negligence” but in this case, who is (are) the lazy one(s)?
I hope that it is not misspelt and should read “slackass” which would mean “a lazy person who expects things to be done for them; a hybrid of a slacker and a jackass” because that would be impertinent and uncalled for!
Here you go Christer:
Thanks, that starboard side certainly looks different than the “rounded” in the drawing I linked to!
Wonder what it would be valued at 35 years after the Christies Auction?
As they say, “nothing is worth more than someone is willing to pay”!
I was wondering if it could have been MH434, seems unlikely.
I dug out my copy of the “AIRSHOW 86 – FlyPast SPECIAL” which had an article “Year of the SPITFIRE 1936-86”. It states that MH434 was bought in 1983 by Ray Hanna in auction for £260,000. I think it was at Christie’s and MH434 was in flyable condition. If the ad was published in 1965 (25 years after the BoB), the appreciation over 18 years from £4,000 to £260,000 was impressive.
EDITED: The article also states that MH434, acquired by Tim Davies, was flown to England in June 1963, becoming G-ASJV.
Sorry for assuming that you were a male … :apologetic: … but most usernames don’t give a clue.
Will he have the basic courtesy to come back and thank his helpers? Many don’t.
Was that comment really called for … … after little more than a day since his first posting?
