I remember reading that the last version of the P-40, the N was a real contender at low levels. Can anyone confirm this?
The accident during the filming occured when the contraption they had built using parts from a T-6 and a Beech 18 collapsed on landing. They used the O-47 afterwards.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t both the DB and the Merlin right-handed?Why would they need to switch round the the aerofoil of the fin and rudder??
Ant, the BuchΓ³ns were an extrapolation of the earlier Spanish Bf 109s, which used Hispano engines that turned the other way around, hence the rounded fin and the whacky take-off caracteristics of the BuchΓ³ns!
π
I made the 6-engined thingie from Revell, it’s a Arado E.555. It looks quite good one it’s completed!
π
To remove oil, nothing beats good old Avgas though!
π
I don’t think there’s something bad in it, since the guy who told me that has been washing his Grob-Slingsby glider with that for at least 10-15 years, and other gliders before that. I didn’t spot anything bad on the wings either.
π
Alexis, to remove the bugs, use water with a little soap in there, dish washing fluid will do. Wash the leading edge with a rag (preferably cotton) and they should go away very easily.
I found that out while cleaning up the Focke-Wulf last week.
π
Those are Convairs 580, and the Canadian one is a CL-66 Cosmopolitan, built in MontrΓ©al.
π
You are right Bob, but it wasn’t only Mr. Potter who needed better protection from the crowd, I had to isolate my Focke-Wulf with cones and tape to stop the people from crawling over it. And I had it moved to the Warbird section on Sunday too, where it was safe for the duration of the show.
The most respectful place I saw for the planes was Geneseo, no one would touch at them, they would just gaze in awe in front of them!
I missed the formation fly-by by mere seconds, I managed to get the CF-188 breaking away with the Spit in the left corner of the shot!
π
Here are my images from the show, it’s just the best, I still have over 140 on my hard drive!
π
The Cornell was from the CWH and she was static only. I got invited and henve got all my expenses paid. If you arrived one morning with your aircraft, saying that you wanted to be static, chances are that you wouldn’t have been very welcome, since they have to plan how much it’ll cost them to host everyone. You might have just been static, but at your own expense.
All the major performers, like Julie Clark and the Pitts are paid. Military guys are invited!
π
No offenses taken Charles! I agree, there was a lack of static stuff, but the flying part was top notch! I can’t wait to get back next year!
Well, I did a nice fly-by when I left for all the volunteers and the staff, they all rose up from the VIP tent when I passed an waved at me as I rocked the wings, it gave me a pinch to the heart!
Maybe next year!
We might very well go to the Hawkesburry fly-in, as well as the one in Pendleton this fall, so watch the WIX for more details…
π
Nice pictures Andrew!
You got poor ole Fw 149 when she was in the middle of the ‘sand box’, all dusted up! I got her move on Sunday, near the Seaking.
Thanks again for the images!
