Elvington is unlicensed, has insufficiant fire cover and no loading/offloading facilities.

..what ‘situation’? This is all a mystery to us. Why has this DC-6 been left here unattended, when it could have stayed at Coventry….or is there something more?

I apologise if this all sounds a bit ‘cloak and dagger’ but I do not believe it to be my place to be discussing the possible plans of the management in detail on this or any other forum until they are made public. The situation to which I was referring is the lack of security at Deenethorpe. The decision to leave SIXC there was based on many factors however I can say it does NOT have anything to do with the aircraft being scrapped!

It is sad to see the aircraft sat doing nothing, but the freight market for them is just not there anymore since the market was flooded with cheap AN12’s from recent new members of the EU such as Estonia. We would dearly love to put seats back on one, however at this moment in time the cost of that is prohibitive, especially given the modifications required to the aircraft to satisfy CAA requirements.

The DC6 is far from abandoned I can assure you of that! Engineers will be working on the aircraft next week. Also vandalised is a bit strong I think. There have been problems with locals but nothing too serious and certainly nothing more than we expected given the situation.

The Rover TP90 Gas Turbine engine powered Auster J/1 G-AGVI at Baginton. The Chipmunk so fitted was G-ATTS.

Still under slow restoration. I’m not sure what she looks like at the moment, as the last photo I saw was a good few months old, however it is still being worked on. I really wouldn’t like to guess as to when it will be flying again.

Guy’s glider routine is truly outstanding. The inclusion of the Extra and the routine they perform together makes that one of the most innovative displays I’ve seen in a long time. Well worth making sure you are not in the burger van queue for!!

I abandoned the office and travelled with the Dak to Culdrose having never been before. A nice display I thought, although as Rob says it’s a shame there was no Hunter or Vixen display. The VC10 made the trip worthwhile for me though 😀

Excellent photos Rob, thanks for posting.

We got as far as Kemble before we decided discretion was the better part of valour, and put down there. By the time the cloudbase had lifted there wasn’t much point carrying on, so we headed home. A real shame considering last years similar conditions.

Allow me to shead some light on this!

The aircraft sighed over Swindon were indeed DC6 G-APSA and Pembroke G-BXES/XL954. The Six is to be part of a film being shot on location at Dusnfold and the Pembroke was collecting the crew. Both came from Kemble where 8 Classic Flight aircraft were practicing for the Biggin Hill airshow.

Here is a little taster of what to expect, and for fans of large piston aircraft, Biggin Hill will be unmissable this year!!

Its was, if I remember correctly, Comet 4C N999WA. It was eventually broken up on site.
