    Pete,

Yes, it’s our Meteor, however she returned to Coventry as she is being filmed here on Tuesday. She’ll fly into Duxford on Sunday morning for the show.

As pointed out in the first post, SIXC hasn’t flown for about 18 months now. Probably the biggest reason for this is following the recent expansion of the EU, the freight market was flooded with much cheaper aircraft from countries such as Ukraine. Prior to this, operators from these countries would have to lodge a ‘Non-Objection’ request with European operators capbable of carrying the load and if the EU operator had availability, the chartering company would be obliged to use them, even if they were more expensive.

This is no longer the case and because these Eastern European companies have much lower operating costs and can therefore offer lower prices, all the work went in their direction.

Noise was not the problem it was often perceived to be although as Moggy says avgas supply was beginning to become an issue.

It is sad the work is no longer there, however we can no longer afford to have the aircraft sat around doing nothing. I would rather they move on to new owners than continue to drain money from the rest of the Classic Flight.

Thanks for posting that pic. We were on our way back from Kemble in G-DHDV and G-AGTM and had to divert to Wellesbourne due “debris on the runway” Still, got a nice cuppa out of it!

….er, yessir! How many would you like? (Culdrose July 1975)

Oh my, all that day-glo….i’m not sure I can contain myself!

I’d like to get our Pembroke painted up in its old 2TAS scheme, but everyone at work thinks I have some bizzare day-glo fetish

Thanks for all the responses so far guys. Info on Percivals is very hard to come by it seems! With this in mind I’ve started a website with the aim of bringing together as much Percival information as possible.

There isn’t much to it at the moment, but if anyone has any information of photos they would like to share and have published on the site please get in touch!

    Hi all,

I think itโ€™s safe to say we will NOT be moving from CVT this year, and probably not for the foreseeable future. We would *like* to move somewhere to establish a ‘living museum’ featuring our collection, but finding the right airfield is a big problem. Staverton came very close to happening but the infrastructure was just not quite suitable for us, the runway length and hangar size being to two main issues. We need somewhere with no or little commercial operation, a 45000 sq ft hangar and 1800m of runway.

Cost is also another issue. Somewhere like Deenthorpe would require huge investment well above what we could afford. Contrary to what may be believed in the community, Air Atlantique’s other activities (i.e. the ATR operation) no longer support Classic Flight, and we have to stand on our own two feet and make enough money to cover our costs. If we don’t then its all over and this unique collection will be lost.

It’s Halfpenny Green, which is now Wolverhampton Business Airport.

If anyone has any suggestions as to where we should bring our aircraft, please let us know. Bare in mind the airfield must be licensed and have fire cover of at least Category 2 for us to be able to operate the Rapide and Prentice.

In addition to the Open days we hold at Coventry, this year will see a large expansion in our pleasure flying activities at other locations. The list as it stands at the moment is as follows:

    15 April – Wolverhampton airport – DH89 and Prentice
    6/7 May – Goodwood – DH89 and Prentice
    3/4 June – Biggin Hill Airshow – DH89
18 June – Wings and Wheels, Wellsbourne – DH89 and Prentice
8/9 July – Festival of Speed, Goodwood – DH89 and Prentice
    1/2/3 Sept – Revival, Goodwood – DH89 and Prentice

There will be more locations announced over the next few weeks and these will be posted at http://www.classicflight.com

Is it still a 7 seater?

๐Ÿ˜ฎ 7 people in a Prentice!! Now that would be a curvature of the earth take off. We’ve limited APJB to 3 pax + pilot.

I’m glad all that attended enjoyed the day. It makes all the hard work before hand seem worth it after reading the comments posted here.

    Hi Kev,

I imagine it will be AGTM for the majority of the time as it is the better of the two in most respects.

I’ll let Will know you’ll be in touch, and hope you are feeling better soon.

    Cheers,

    Tom.
