RE: Bases in Europe!!
Nope, that’s not true, since the 1993 Maastricht treaty the territories of each individual member of the EU is considered to be common EU-territory, which means that if for example Turkey would attack Greece, the EU is obliged to respond, even if that means with military force. The EU is far more important than NATO is anyway, especially since the end of the cold war.
The EU is not a military organisation, nor is it an economical. It’s more like a supranational government.

RE: the REAL culprits
I don’t know why you included that article but I hope you are smart enough yourself to know it was written by a complete moron who has no idea about what he’s saying.
Anyway, it is a tragedy. Question is: could this have been avoided?

RE: 28 biljion for smoking
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 06-10-02 AT 03:33 PM (GMT)]Yes I also agree with your point. But tobacco and alcohol-users are the people that ask most money from the society, more than any heroin addict. This money can be used much better, like give it to a fund for children with cancer.
I wouldn’t even give these people a symbolic Euro.

RE: Swissair ‘resolved to let Sabena fail’
Indeed, and Sabena was a nice example of Swiss arrogance and Belgian incompetence. Anyway, the federal parliament is investigating the case, and gets support from the European Parliament. Therefor, Belgian inspectors can even go to Toulouse (the European ‘Seattle’ :-)), and ask the company to give all documents necessairy to find out what went wrong. Airbus is cooperating, but both SwissAir and the Swiss gov’t are blocking the investigation. One reason why the relations between the EU and Switzerland are troubled.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 06-10-02 AT 03:17 PM (GMT)]Don’t agree Hand. People know since 1972 that Tobacco is bad for your health, since 1972! Today, we are 2002, 30 years later. People who still smoke are the ones who don’t give a damn about their health, Philip Morris is not responsible. I don’t think these people even deserve one dollar. Either you have been in coma for the past 30 years or you are just stupid.
Justice is something precious, don’t waste it to lawsuits against Morris or Mc Donnalds. These (the so called victims) people are just after the money.
In Belgium they want to let people who smoke pay more for their insurance. I can only support this, because smokers should realise that they are the only ones who can do something about it, not Philip Morris or the judge.

RE: What other hobbies do you guys / gals have ?
Hey, can you mail it to me, Geedee? I have to make a paper on a French WWI-pilot (Saint-exupery, spelling!). I can always use some extra information.
