    Example of Refugee-problem

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 31-07-02 AT 06:24 PM (GMT)]In Belgium, a couple of months ago, the fed. gov’t opened a new refugee home for the asylum-seakers. It used to be a summer-village, but it was near banckrupty, so the gov’t bought the whole place. The people who used to work there got a new job as guards, cooks, nurses etc for these asylum seakers. Otherwise, they would probably have lost their jobs, but now they got a new contract (and working for the gov’t is very attractive). The local shops also beneffited from it, because everything was bought from these shops (food …) eventhough it costs more. So, now you would say : everyone happy ! Nope, a couple of rightwing politicans, backed by some local newspapers, hired some lawyers, and actually they won the trial because the license for thise refuge home was not 100 % legal, so the gov’t had to close the whole place. Consequences : 50 people lost their job immediatelly, and the shop owners will probably lose lots of their incomes. But hé, that’s democracy. One spicy detail: these local newspaper said these ‘illegal immgrants’ had a swimming pool and a bar. That was true, but since these people were not allowed to leave the place, swimming was the only exercise they could do. And the drinks (non-alcoholic ofcourse) were not paid by the gov’t but by local sponsors (like these shopowners).

    RE: Comet

That would supprise me, Comet. But that has nothing to do with immigrants. The British gov’t HAS TO give medical aid to these people, wheter they like it or no. Since Britain is a member of the COE ‘Council of Europe’ all immigrants should be taken care off.

I’m sorry to hear about the bad health care in your country, but even without the immigrants, things wouldn’t change.
