They inspired what????!!! The last rockband that may have inspired new groups is Blur I guess. Though I have to admit, lately, there’s an enormous wave of good music again. The late nineties were really sh!te, but from 2002 on there’s good music again.

Yeah, I still remember that horrible stinch there :D. I heard some people saying it was the smell of death. Man, when I arrived there on sunday I started puking immediatelly (stinch was a very welcome excuse).

Bismarck. What a lovely name. πŸ™‚

Ohh and the furniture. Agree with you. My “kot”/studio here in leuven is full of roadsigns (no parking etc) as decoration, trophies which I deserved after a haunt in the city. For the rest, I don’t need much. I can do basically anything from my bed: studying, eating, sleeping (yes too) and you don’t want to know how I once managed to urinate without having to get up.

Storm in a glass of water. There most be other things the EU could worry about than Prince harry wearing a swastika. Com’on, Brussels should not be following those low class tabloids. To be honest, I also wore swastika once, as a joke. I know WWII and the holocaust still is a heavy burdon upon Germany and the whole western civilization. But this is not the right way. Better would be to inform people on the dangers of right wing ideologies.

“Kitsch”. But I respect your choise. πŸ™‚ It’s just, saw them live (Werchter and Graspop). Rammstein is kitsch too, for example, but it’s funny because they don’t take themselves too serious. The burning guitars and the *****’s may not be that original, they are most certainly funny. Within Temptation is just cheap over-acting. Rammstein is not my cup of tea, but their live acts are brilliant! Never had such an ammusing time during a gig. They are more exciting than Dandy Warhols or Pixies. However, I do like the attitude of “hey we’re not here to amuse you, we just play our songs and we’ll move on with our tour-bus.” πŸ˜€ Arrogant *******s.

Worst I’ve ever seen live is the Peppers. Yuck. I also hate the “new age” attitude of bands like Live. They want to create better world etc etc. Man, I just want to hear rock. The problem with these bands, and also with Within Temptation is that they lack humour.

Funny thing is that they thought of themselves as a mixture between punk and grunge. Well, don’t know about you guys but haven’t found much influence of the Sex Pistols, Billy Idol, Nirvana or Pixies in this magnificien trio. Even I could do better. Charlie will now have 100% time to devote to his haircut now that he doesn’t have to carry that big guitar anymore (which I doubt he ever “played”).

And I’ve got a big zip on the back of my neck which is extremely painfull (couldn’t sleep last night). It’s one of those which pop up sometimes and disappear one day later. It is probably due stress and bad eating habits. And there’s really nothing you can do about it.

The fear of the Poles and Hungarians was more aimed directly at Moscow than at communism itself. Solidarnosc was not anti-communists, it wanted to change communism and become more independent of Moscow. Same with Charta 77. After WWII, most central and eastern european countries chose communism as a better alternative: The “people’s republic” vs the “bourgeois republics” of the west. It’s only after 1947 (comecon and the prague coup) the cold war broke out. In the two years between most countries became socialist because they wanted to, not because Stalin forced them too. Ofcourse, after 1947 Stalin changed his policies and countries had to give up their independent policies. Tito was an exception, but even he was a strong believer in communism, only not in Moscow’s monopoly on communism. Same with Albania.

But it’s a mistake to believe after WWII the Russians came in and changed all the leaders with their own muppets. It went more smoothlty. Ofcourse, otherwise it wouldn’t have worked for more than 40 years.

I think it’s only after the economic crisis of the seventees people really started to criticise communism itself, and even then we’re talking about intellectuals rather than the average man. But the same was going on in the west too, you know, gov’ts which collapsed (UK). Post-Modern crisis. πŸ™‚

Well, it’s like in the indian or european parliament, there are about 200 parties or so πŸ˜€
Fact is political parties were formed to serve the needs of the common people, because independent MP’s were too selfish according to marxism (bourgeois-democracy). A third party would be good though, however, unlike in europe, political parties based upon ideas like religion would never be a succes in the US because of the diversity.

Ohh and first time we can really discuss politics without having the webmaster ask to close the thread!!! Nice πŸ™‚

Michael Moore indeed hasn’t contributed much to “progressive America”. Fahrenheit 9/11 was a lousy peace of junk, one could look right through it. I went to see the movie as pure entertainment, not as a documentary, but even then I was quite upset. Michael Moore is not giving us any alternative, he’s just criticising the establishment. The problem with the American progressives is that they don’t seem able to organise themselves the same way the Right does. In Belgium, due a different political system, it’s easy to form a party and get some seats in the parliament. Luckily, that doesn’t guarantee you a place in the gov’t. I know American politics are different in the way the legislative power is more independent towards the executive, but during elections ofcourse, all members of one party will eventually have to join their presidential candidate.
