I would suggest pretty much all you need to know about this subject, is contained in the first few pages of this thread.

Do you detect some “bias” here?

All I can see is a lot of questions and very little in the way of answers.

    Moggy

Other than the assertion (by some) of grave robbing; as you say very little in the way of answers, (which in itself suggests that the people digging the A/C are in someway accountable to this forum) doubtless the lack of a response is not helping their cause, but it shouldn’t be taken as an admission of guilt.

And what exactly are we waiting for?

    Moggy

I cant speak for you, but I’m waiting for the truth; unbiased fact; (dont mind me though) …..one phone call to Key from those involved threatening legals and this thread will disappear quicker than you can say “P40 in the desert”.

I wouldn’t disagree with that statement, I am just advocating a wait and see position; I’m reminded of all those “Thats not a real P40, look at the rivet lines they’re all wrong” type of posts on a recent thread.

I am aware that diggers can do an awful amount of damage, afterall the same machines are used (often without modification) to destroy aeroplanes in the scrapping process, however they are used on nearly every dig, and as an experienced machine operator I can say that you can feel the difference between earth, clay, cylinder blocks, airframe parts even a large machine has a degree of sensitivity.

I was merely suggesting that that as a casual observer they can appear to be completely the wrong tools for the job, and that may have been the experience that “Dyson” had.

As to my experience on digs, I have probably dug more holes than you Tangmere, it’s just I haven’t found anything yet!

I am at a loss to see what verifiable facts have actually been presented here, relating to this (the third) dig; no one posting here was actually at the dig site, there does however appear to be a shift in emphasis (by some) since it was mentioned that a person known to them was on site .

I do wonder if the comments from “Dyson” are from a person inexperienced in wreckology, and was expecting Phil from time team and his tea spoon, to be picking over every last inch of the site; clearly this isn’t how it works, and excavators (big and small) actually do very little damage to the recovered items, but none the less it looks a bit ham fisted.

At last a vote of confidence; innocent until proven, etc, etc; still it begs the question in this day and age, to dig or not to dig? damned if we do, damned if we don’t.

I switched in and out of the programme several times.

I was pretty sure that there were some snippets of Air to Air that I did not recall seeing previously.

    Anybody else?

    Mark

There did seem to be a few extra bits, I must have watched it at least a hundred times by now, (when my son was younger we watched it EVERY Sunday and he thought the same).

Boy do you see stuff I don’t, and I’ve been watching it since the early seventies!

More authenticity and provenance than many a flying $pitfire, you just need to attach the carry through spars, and chocks away!

I don’t think ashamed is the right word, weary probably sums up the feeling; lets not forget that none of the services were adequately thanked, nor the civillians made homeless, wounded (or indeed killed) compensated, thats just how things were then.

Sorry stopped reading after the words “alleged agreement”; probably should have stopped before clicking the link “wikipedia”
