Thanks for that, for some reason I got it into my head that they were done in black with a stencil.
Any idea who applied the yellow paint serial no. I ‘ve seen that before somewhere.
Other than removing the word “taxiing” from mr Adlams listing….
There are quite a few projects etc, that belong to forum members that no longer post on here, at what point are they removed? still think it would have been better with pictures, afterall it is called the “forum virtual aviation museum” not the boring but potentially useful list!
Can I ask what purpose does this thread serve? it is very “listy” and would have been so much better with pictures.
Biggest problem with filler on A/C is you are never far from a rivet line, and filling over part of a line looks naff, that said I have and do use the stuff; everything has its place.
To a group of pedants, me included, the spelling of the engine name is important. Yes, would also be interested in details of the project.
Planemike
I heard you the first time.
But we’re not just about spelling are we? I for one would be interested in hearing about (and seeing) the engine in question.
I thought “yellow death” was the affectionate term for strontium chromate, the H&S sheet for which does slightly put one off from using it, which is a shame as I’ve got a couple of gallons (imp) of the stuff!
Edwards do a bench mounted 30″ pan folder, heavy as ****, but more versatile; Rocketeer is right though, they’re never long enough!
I thought that it starting off at about the time that shed man (builder of the Whirlwind cockpit) died; I recall some mention of measuring what he had built.
I definately don’t underestimate the enormity of the task, I have done some of this reverse engineering from photographs, scant drawings, and anecdotes, and you do get stuff wrong.
Can I ask how long has the project been ongoing? I seem to remember something like 3 years; I would have thought by now fabrication would be under way. (at least some items that could adorn the project display stall)
It’s perhaps unfortunate that several failed attempts have gone before, inevitably tarnishing any further projects, but possibly serves to illustrate the enormity of the undertaking; like others I wish the project well, but I’m not holding my breath.
I quite like monsieur Chabbert, but he does go on; they should either cut down on the number of PA speakers so there is a “quiet zone” or have someone with a fader (out side the comentary box)
I think there are worse things than letting out the occassional expletive, considering the amount of words he does get through in an afternoon, I think he does alright! there’s always Jonathon Ross……..
We used to have a guy from the US visit the ‘fest on a regular basis, Chris ?
I like the balbo, gives us a chance to get out of the car park……..
Best displays, the P38, Sea fury, thunderbolt, and three of a kind; the Spitfire tailchase was all over the place with two separate displays happening at the same time, what happened to Spitfires & Hurricanes v’s 109’s with pyrotechnics?
