What then was “the battle of barking creek”, neither a battle nor a skirmish but men died all the same; is 603 sqn’s tally relevant to the discussion?
One mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter (isn’t that right Nelson) it’s a global point of view; perhaps she wasn’t as close to Mountbatten as Charles….
OP does say mkV.
Doesn’t the chain guard set the distance ?
I think this year it was about collecting ww2 cockpits and displays together, as “Warbird alley”, previous years there has been “Hunter gatherings” and other themes, anniversaries of the type or conflicts they were involved with, etc, and they worked fine.
Problem seems to be very few ww2 cockpits, if you had as many as there are Hunters or Canberras, weight of numbers would carry it through, many more cockpit owners and displays (re-enactors) were invited, but the demise of the Warbird alley theme certainly put some off attending; it was a shame not to see R Marleys typhoon this year, (although I couldn’t say why he didn’t attend).
I suppose it depends which quarter the lack of enthusiasm eminated, was it the museum, or the participants?
“I see that the themed areas idea has come round again, this was much discussed on another thread and almost forgotten; and yet here we are again!”
Maybe thats because it’s a good idea……
“but isn’t the fuselage A1 roundel out of proportion? The Yellow ring should be the same width as the blue, white and red. I really don’t mean this to be nitpicking but there is a wealth of reference material out there which allows for true accuracy.“
Always one isn’t there?
Cheap enough to make you cry, I know I did…….
Possibly off topic, but, I never knew that the pillbox/ gun emplacement at Warden point, which was still up the hill when we had a chalet there, (sounds like one upmanship, but it was made entirely of asbestos!) was infact an acoustic mirror.
This has been asked and discussed many times before, and the answer is no. But alot of members first seem to go about advertising something on here with an opening post like;
“i’ve got a genuine Spitfire wheel chock that Douglas Bader threw at one of his ground crew. It still has a dent in the wood from where it bounced off the chaps frontal cranium. Where’s the best place to sell it”?
At which point offers of cash and untold riches flood in from excited members in the form of PM’s.. and problem solved. Alternatively you could try ebay.! :D:p
Rob
Have you got a link or an item no. for that?
Erasing any evidence of its provenance and Faced with too many questions about the mysterious rogue fighter, he contemplated increasingly desperate measures to offload it
It may just be me but, the phrases “evidence of it’s provenance” and “faced with too many questions” seem awfully familiar.
Looks suspiciously like the work of a certain artist, who I believe has had his own provenance called into question several times!
I was going to change my signature anyway, as the joke has worn a little thin……………. thin but robust!
You are half right, most of the comments posted on the internet would never leave the lips in conversation (should the chance occur where joe blogs engages with tycoon type) but they think them, and mutter amongst themselves at aerojumbles, (Stalin would have banned aerojumbles!)
