Shame about the Triton, as the Americans make more camshafts for the Triumph engine, than Triumph made engines, unfortunately none can be fitted without splitting the crankcase……but with regard to oil on paintwork, even the UK dries out now and then, and the resulting dust storms, will surely make all airframes coated look like gulf war veterans!

Not sure where you guys got the idea that he was underated, his talent as a guitarist is legendary, it could be argued that having his face messed up with a broken glass, didn’t help his media profile, but how many guitarists do you see on the ex factor or pop idle, anyway?

My favorite memory of him was Donnington ’84, the ovation he got walking on stage, was something to behold, he wiped the floor with the rest of the acts, including Eddie van driver; a genuinely brilliant player, RIP Gary.

Thanks for posting this story; very rare to get an objective view from someone involved, but this certainly seems to be just that.

Might one ask what is the primary source for the Ducellier book? also is it really credible, if as has been stated, that it has been edited because the “narrative was very confusing” does that not imply that even the author is unsure?

Popsie isn’t derogatory but bint certainly is! πŸ˜€

I believe the term “a lush” was a reference to an alcoholic, not sure how it cropped up here, but not a compliment either.

The report says that his daughter donated her fathers jacket, and the film to the museum, and that it would be returned to her, so presumably it has been developed, but unseen by her, because of its format; obviously not from the last mission.

One thing that occurs to me, is althought with hindsight we can see that demand never outstripped supply in terms of men and machines, did they know that at the time?
Given that the battle was effectively over in a very short time, would the various depts, of the ministry of supply, and the squadron tallys/losses etc, all have been collated early enough during battle, for the fact that they were holding their own to have become apparent? if this didn’t happen, then the German tactics (such as they were) succeded in keeping the RAF harried and ill at ease.

If you think I’m wrong in what I’ve said, please just say so, I’m here to learn.
