Dutch F-16 crashed
A Dutch F-16 made an emergecy landing at Charleroi airport in Belgium. Because of debris on the runway, apparently the tail broke off, the airfield is currently closed. The pilot was not injured and was able to walk away from the plane. The F-16 was one intended to be sold to Chile.

Like I said, I was only guessing. You mean 30 regular airfields in West Germany in the 1980s, or 30 highway-strips?
I’m asking this question about airfield numbers because I’m interested in how NATO could disperse it aircraft in the event of a war against the WP. There is also the question as to how effectively the Warsaw Pact could attack so many NATO airfields with a limited number of aircraft.
No, just the Highway-strips.
Here’s a link to a German site about that with all the location of these. It also has the location of some DDR strips.

Do you add to this the number of the highway-strips (autobahn behelfs flugplatz)
In Germany there were close to 30 during the cold war of which today only 15 still exists.

Then why are the German armed forces hating it so much?
There is a 100 pge german report listing an impressive amount of shortcomings from insufficient ground clearance to tender floorplates, weak seats, a poor hoisting system….
the report recommends to use another helicopter wherever possible and if I am not mistaken, has led to a large delay of the NH90 programme while re-designing parts of the aircraft.
You are aware that you’re reacting to a post from the 10th October 2006? 🙂
How about an oldie:
The YF-110
is that a F-18 problem? Here the same happend with a USN F-18. But here also the cockpit window was smashed.

So the Tu-154 Careless is stiill in production? I thought it was stopped in 2006.
At first I had this one
than I realised you need the upper surface
Hope this will help
the F-5’s are the F-5E and the F-5F.
The one seater, F-5E, carries a Dart, a towed target for gun practice.
so I guess the 3 from VX-30 and the 1 from NASA are the only one still flying.
btw. I like those special celebration paintings. Maybe it’s time for a new topic about that.
I have been seeing on the news what look to be Chinooks trying to water bomb the nuclear power station in Japan and it makes me wonder why some one has not lent japan a BE-200 or similar aircraft to properly water bomb the power stations.
Would the Japanese government have requested these aircraft?
They need a helo to get the maximin amount of water at a pinpoint position. The chinook or even better the Mi-26 uses the biggest Bambi Buckets to do that job. The problem is the radiation level which restricts the minimum flightlevel to 90 m. or higher.
Here is KAF 321.

I know that it’s a blurry pic.
OK. Now it is even more confusing.
