Is that last black & white photo of a Skyraider?
As for the F-15, isn’t Boeing working on some long-term upgrade program that gives the F-15 a larger “clip” of AAM’s? I don’t know that anyone has bought it yet, but I think I read about it recently.
Yes It’s a Skyraider

Unusual too in that it has the roundel on both lower wing surfaces.
I don’t agree. This roundel was the next step from the same one with the red dot in the middle and that too was placed on both wings on top and under.
Another one is here:
It was only when the bars were included the upper right and the lower left were lost. 😉 But I know that every rule has it’s exceptions. :very_drunk: And the Navy could have other regulations then the Air Force and…..
edit;
Finaly found a nice color pic of it

It looks as some had the yellow circle on the fuselage roundel and others on the wing roundel (adding more confusing to it)
Is this the explanation:
and another USA roundel,
this one is from 1942 with an yellow outlined star. Used in North Africa

as reply to your question in post # 2722, GERARD ;
CAF as in CAMEROON A/F ; seed the 3rd pic in post # 2711….!! ( a fine emblem…)

ok I see! Like the one in this Cameroon Air Force MA60

But the question now: Is it a roundel or some sort of Air Force Insignia / Emblem?
edit: add pic

as can be seen on this CN235 it is used together with the standard roundels so I guess not a roundel!

USA 1918 with red blue white roundel
and even older

USA 1915 with the red star.

The RAF E-3D is unique in that it has a probe AND a receptacle – so it could use both (though I’m not sure if the crews have currency on both systems??)
I also used to think that the F-35 only had a boom receptacle – but ‘our’ version – the F-35B, has a probe.
So, presumably the F-35B (US Marines) and F-35C (US Navy) can also only use Probe-and-Drogue?

PS – Another thought….. there is much talk at the moment about the SAS and V-22 (preferred for its speed and range?) – but the Merlin helicopter also has (had?) a retractable boom – all it needs is a suitable (read slow) tanker.
Surely the A-400M could serve in that role – if it were so fitted out.

A400M tanker
Ken,
How about the most important new platform: the F-35…..
Andy
Only the A model uses the boom.
thanks or your replies, MSphere & Gerard,…
in your roundels, Gerard, I could find only the newly-introduced BIR- one, but not yet ‘THE’ CAF one….:p
to be continued ? :confused:
