A tragic event has happened in London. However, we can not tolerate expressions like this. “The middle east” is not al quaida, there are also people living there. Very sad, unwise and cynical of you to use this tragic event to spread your racist comments instead of being concerned about the victims.
My thoughts to the family of the victims and the british people

People from the Northern states of the US are named after the Dutch. Back in colonial times, every second Dutchman was either called Jan or Kees. So when the founding fathers of towns like New Amsterdam assimilated with the English-speaking folk, they were given their actual names: YanKees.
Now this is interresting 😉 Haven’t thought about that one.

There are more people alive today than have ever died!
– so I’m told
I think that’s quite impossible   Anyone info on this?

Cool I like those re-enacment methods. Actually these methods are taking seriously in the academic world as well, not just as amusement for the people. It gives you a new insight on historic events, like the battle of trafalgar etc. Re-construction history is a very serious business though, but it beats the “factfile” kind of history which we have been taught too long!!! Especially on mediaeval history it can offer new insights, as primary sources are most of the times unavailable.

I didn’t know that. 🙂 Still, it’s always nice to stick two fingers up to the French, regardless of who’s doing it. 😉
(Steph, Hand – only joking lads.)
So actually Churchill Victory Sign must have pissed off Charles de Gaulles

Well I think it still sounds reasonable. For a frenchman, hearing “God dam” thousands times a day (I do they think used that term already a long time). Hence they called them “les goddons”.
And yes they have a sence of humour, especially on oral exams. Girl in front of me was crying, so he became very angry at her. When I had to start he was still upset saying “you better have some good answers”.
Come on there must be other useless facts?
