Yeah just had a look at wx, LPL is down to 200m visability and EMA is down to 300m vis so i would think that is below minimums for most a/c to land. Doesnt look like its goin to improve soon either. If ur flyin from either i expect delays and cancellations!

Ryanair were offering a return fare from DUB to MAD return at €29, that includes all taxes and credit card charge. With fares like that people will travel, weather it be spainish or tourists or businessmen. Companies are becoming a lot more cost effective and putting a worker on a €300 IB ticket or a cheap FR and the ryanair ticket will win. The flights out of MAD will be full cause thats what FR are good at, putting bums on seats and filling planes!

The BHD to DUB was tried by Aer Arann a few years back and completely failed, the load factors were extremely poor. If they couldnt even fill an ATR 42, WW would have no chance with a 737. The road and rail service between the two cities is now very good and an air route with not be commercially viable.

I think the ban on hand baggage is totally a knee jerk reaction. If some nut is intent on blowing up themselves on a plane train or any thing else their going to do it. Even if security is tight in the UK its easy for them to g to another country, where secuirty is more lapse.

We must just face up to the fact that their is a small section of the muslum faith that are so fanatical that they will do anything to try and destroy the west and innocent people.

Its a sad fact of the times we live in and to ban hand baggage in the cabin is not going to stop these people

Biggest maybe, but as neither is government owned, neither can be described as ‘national’.

    1L.

EI is government owned at the moment, however the irish government want to float it and keep a 15% share in it.

Great news for the flying public, however, how DUB is going to cope with more pax, especially the very overcrowed A pier, its going to make the flying experience very unplesent!

FR are really moving into Spain big time now, im sure Iberia will be getting worried

This is just another example of aviation bashing! If there not having a go about the environment its compenstion or something else.

They should look at the SUVs that are driven by around by MILFs droppin the kids to school, there the real ones destroying the envioronment.
The fat cats sitting in business class wont care becauase its the company footing the bill, its the normally joes trying to visit friends or family somewhere that will suffer.

[QUOTE=Dan05]I assume you mean you’ll be damp-leasing, as dry leasing doesn’t include pilots?[/QUOTE

Wouldnt someone starting up an airline, know the difference between dry, damp and wet leasing!

No disrespect but I really dont think were going to see flysunjet taking off. Wouldnt using an ATR be a bit of a contradiction to the name anyway since its a prop not a jet, and NCL isnt the sunniest place in the world in the middle of winter! Dont easyjet have a cabin crew shortage at NCL, yet an airline that hasnt even got a plane has over a 100 cabin crew wanting to work for them?

I have every respect for someone who has guts to start up there own business, especially in cut throat aviation. But you need deep pockets and a lot of start up capital, just to satisfy the CAA requirements. New start ups hemrige money. The lease on a used ATR is round the $300000 a month mark.

My advice would be to forget starting in NCL and head to Greece or somewhere, get a PSO contract and then at least you get money from the government regardless of how many pax you got! 😉

Good luck to ya anyway in whatever area of aviation you decide to go in to
    Its all exciting! :dev2:

It looks like the reason the bags were left behind was due to an RTOW out of LCY as the runway is quite short their and the 146 would be a heavy enough aircraft, DUB wouldnt have any probs as the runway is long, not really any compensation to you but hope it gives some explanation, Cityjet/air France may be reasonable enough to deal with regards compo. Aircraft like the 146/ATR/Dash 8 and short fields can give problems when the payload is high.

In relation to Beejays comments the reason the LMC’s(Last minute changes/late arrivals) are not taken is because normally max fuel has been taken and the loadsheet has already been prepared with the anticipated payload but normally its the fact that by the time the late pax get thru security etc, it could delay departure of the aircraft. Airline crews and dispatchers/ops will always try and calculate as much as possible pax, bag weight, fuel required and as a last resort will leave bags behind. People in aviation are highly professional and always consider all the facts (safety, pax inconvenience etc).

Beejay you oviously dont work in aviation, so I wouldnt take what goes on in some docusoap too seriously, the behind the scenes actions of staff on the ground are quite different

Most airlines wont give you much in the way of compensation. They dont have to give you anything once the bag arrives within 24hrs. This is really where travel insurance comes in handy. The reason why the airline did this could be due to a number of factors, not enough space in the hold, the aircraft may have been “overwight” for take off or they may have had an RTOW(restricted take off weight) due to runway size or conditions. And indeed you normally wont find out about it until you arrive at your destination as the attitute is, let the arrival airport deal with it!

Just out of interest what airline and aircraft type was it?

Yeah looks like they raised it to 20kg as a bit of a sweetner when they introduced charging for bags, they must be loosing a lot on excess baggage. They still allow 10kg of cabin baggage.

This Esperia thing looks like nonesense, the website is ridiculous and simply doesn’t work. I’ve not heard of ANYTHING in the industry and I get exposed to most of these start-ups etc. It has the look of a flight sim airline…i.e. a Virtual Airline, if anyone uses one of the websites related to this, maybe they could check it out? WHY oh WHY would a real airline have a picture displaying competitors in the top RH corner?? Also their timetable doesn’t stack up!! Its absolute bull****! I think its fair to say!

I would have to agree, this looks like a complete scam, something you might see appear on BBC Watchdog!

Id personally avoid any XLA flight where all possible, even when you take off theres no telling if your going to turn back due to a tech prob, (as happened to me out of Dom Rep last year, we turned back after an hour in the air and then endured a 19hr delay!)

Excels realiabilty is poor, If you want to get your hoildays off to a good start your better with First Choice or Virgin, excels record is bad

First Choice, there long haul is excellent, 33inch leg room, seat back tvs, the only charter Id fly long haul on. If you want the worst it has to be Excel, long haul 767 is really cramped and I had a 19hour delay with them last year coming back from Dom Rep!

Ryanair provide a cheap if not nasty service, wheather they call thier fees, taxes, shareholder bonuses, MOLs money towards his price bullocks or whatever, at the end of the day the fare is nearly always cheaper than any of their rivals. Yeah they dont drop you close to your destination or compensate you when thing goes wrong but no ones putting a gun to anybodys head to fly with Ryanair. Its consumer choice and if they were so awful, why do so many people fly with them? Pure and simple there the cheapest! Thats why people grin and bear it!
