I got one from catdog.
The Yales had a Wright Whirlwind engine of about 350hp whereas the Harvard had about a 500hp engine.
Arrestor hook?
Was it an arrestor hook or a message pick-up hook?
I believe Howard Pardue’s museum at Breckenridge, Texas, was hit by a Tornado a week or so ago. He was away with the Bearcat but I believe most of the rest of his collection was seriously damaged.
The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum suffered a fire in the early to mid ’90’s and nearly burned the Lancaster. It did destroy their Hurricane and the CAF Spitfire, Avenger etc. I cannot remember the exact date and what was burned.
Hi Peter,
I PM’ed you with some more info.
Deryck
It looks like the seat adjuster in the rear turret of the Halifax.
It was common on the squadrons to mark the panels with the a/c serial number as they were usually ‘customised’ to easily fit their aircraft.
Most weapons dumped the spent brass overboard.
They do not look like 303s. German 7.62? maybe.
Anson panel?
It certainly looks Anson-ish.
However, with several marks to chose from it is difficult to be sure. Right now I cannot think where it might fit on our Mk II. It looks more Mk V-ish.
I should point out that the restoration of the Auster was not a Trenton Restoration Shop project. The Auster was the personal aircraft of Ernie Sutton and he restored it and donated it to the Museum.
Ernie was the manager of the Air Cadet Glider organization maintenance shop, based at Mountainview. Ernie was responsible for the fabric work on the Halifax.
The Trenton Restoration shop has done some work on the wooden propellor which had started to rot.
Personally I believe that all fabric covered aircraft should be stored indoors all year!
An RCAF friend of mine, now long since dead, was a navigator on B-26, Marauders, he spent his war service ferrying them across the South Atlantic to Africa.
He was based in the Caribean someplace.
Sorry, I cant be of any further help.
Glider tugs.
Sandy Barr has a website http://www.644squadron.com.
I believe they were the towing squadron for the gliders. He may have some useful contacts.
There is also a Tarrant Rushton site http://www.tarrant-rushton.ndirect.co.uk that might provide some useful links.
That does not look like the one Ian Foster had earlier located.
RCAF Mem. Mus. reception!
I have PMd Fleet 16b and apologized for the reception he received at the Museum.
Any of you tech types that visit the museum wanting to see the restoration shop should not enter the Museum but should travel down the North side of the building and enter through the door marked “Halifax Restoration”. The Restoration shop is open from about 7:30am to around 4:30pm to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday. On Saturday and Sunday the hours vary as only a few guys work on the weekend. If the Restoration Shop door is locked on the weekend ask one of the docents in the museum to take you through the shop.
Anson 1’s in Ontario?
Hi Fleet16b,
I’m involved in the restoration of the Trenton Anson Mk II.
Could you tell me who in Ontario are working on the Anson Mk 1 restorations?
We have located some of the original Anson drawings and we might be able to get together and do some ‘backscratching’.
There seems to be about 5,000 drawings involved and we are not intending to obtain them all!
