RAF Turnhouse Domestic Site
Hi Ross,
Thankyou for your amusing and interesting reminiscence, herewith a picture of your Thompson block and the rest of the Domestic site taken around 1999. I took the photo from a Cessna 172, (The Forth Radio Traffic Report aircraft), coming round for finals on the old 08/26 runway, in fact, it was the last day of operation on that runway before permanent closure,….if my memory serves me right:rolleyes:.
As I said in my previous post, all the buildings in the lower part of the pic were demolished about 2005/06, apart from the AMQs at lower right which still exist as private dwellings. I have some pics also of the old terminal that you used to frequent, the site of which is where the cargo shed now stands, I will have another dig for those ones:).

1991 Turnhouse pics
This is the hangar in question taken from the top of the water tower in 1991 which was in the process of being demolished that year. The view south shows the Mechanical Transport Shed being dismantled with the last Nissan huts, which was then the Edinburgh Flying Clubs HQ, the new concrete plant mentioned in the first post is located where the Transport Shed once was, the last pic shows part of the domestic site, all the buildings shown at the top right of pic were swept away about 2005/06.

Arm Waver, thanks for the correction, I should have known better, Snoopy (W MK 2) was a familiar sight while serving at Thorney Island (early 70s), just put it down to some finger trouble:D.

Hercules stretch
WyvernFan (post 6),
I remember too the great expense in stretching the fuselages of the C-130s with plugs fore and aft of the wing, to increase capacity and become C MK 2s, just afew years after the inept decision to withdraw the Belfasts.
regards Gerry R.:)
I can understand the financial reasons for the Portsmouth Air Festival cancellation, but also the clash with the Pompey v Bournemouth football match over the same weekend, the league would never have agreed to postpone that for the air show. It would have been interesting if the re-vitalised Lee-on-Solent airfield would have been used as base for the smaller/lighter aircraft participants, will now have to wait till 2013 to find out, fingers crossed for next year anyway.:)

Leuchars update
Stavid, noticed your post afew day ago, thought I would wait till my next visit, today via train and pushbike to Tentsmuir Forest. On the way stopped off at the Guardroom to ask the vital question, ‘ was this years air show to be the last at RAF Leuchars’, the response was there would PROBABLY be one in 2013 and 2014. Spoke also to a couple of enthuiasts/photographers in Tentsmuir Forest, anyone knowing this part will know of excellent photo opportunites at the beach end of the runway. The fella’s I met there today did not think that any move (if any) to Lossiemouth would not occur till 2014, also the chap I spoke to, had met somebody from the Lossiemouth area, maybe that was you:D at Leuchars a couple of weeks ago who said that he had not seen any developments/work associated with the proposed move of the Typhoons to Lossiemouth, that base is in his local area.
The other question that was discussed, was the Scottish Independence situation, which opens up several scenarios which I will not elaborate here, only to say why spend all the huge amount to transfer the Typhoons to Morayshire if they are to be withdrawn within 2 years, that last comment is open to much speculation though;)

Final 3
Hi All,
Herewith the final 3 from my Chandler archive, RMR, thanks for the info on the 7, will be busy now looking up its history, it is the one just behind the DC-4 in the 1st pic, that particular aircraft has the word Macavia on the nose. FLY.BUY, it was interesting to find out that the African Queen was an ex BOAC example……before its war service:D. Hampden98, I think Aeropick Tours still exist, but I can imagine they have crossed off Chandler from their intinerary, as the updates from you fella’s mean there would not be much to see in 2012:(.
Pic 1. Macavia? DC-4, 2. Pacific Air Express DC-4 with non-standard radome, 3. Tried to squeeze in as many Douglas propliners in one pic, all are depicted in my previous posts here, with what looks like a Piper PA 25 Pawnee sandwiched between the first 2, thanks again to all:).

Unidentified DC-7
Thankyou to all for the replies, RMR, excellent history and future plans (if they come to fruition) on Chandler on that website you gave. Remarkable too how those UH-19 hulks can still be used for modern conversions.
Finger trouble on my last post, the sharp eyed will have noticed pic 4 was a DC-7B and 5 was the DC-4, just one other but unidentified DC-7 here, thanks again.

Some more shots of Chandler Memorial Field Arizona in 1997. Would anyone know the present status of this field or visited Chandler so far in 2012?, also has T&G moved its ops to Coolidge in the same state?, any feedback would be appreciated:), thanks.

Seletar Type ‘A’ Hangars
Thanks Ada for posting, here are two images of the same wrecked hangar in happier times, with a Beechraft Hawker 800 and a Thai AF Super King Air undergoing maintenance. I have included two other pics in the same area, and the question arises will all the buildings disappear in time?. The last pic is of a T2 on the other side of the runway, there in afew years time!? All images from 2009.

Disappearing Seleter 2009
Hello All,
I visited Seletar in 2007 and 2009, on my first visit I had to leave my photo gear at the Guardroom of the Singapore Forces at the main gate, and continue my exploring by taxi. Two years later I was delighted to find that the secuity side of the base had been moved further towards the old East Camp, (near the Astra Cinema), which those of you who knew Seletar will remember its location, and a larger part of the Base was now accessible.
I was able to travel up Edgeware Road towards the airfield and took these pics,I then went in search of my old scout hut from the sixties without success:(. On the way back I photographed numbers 22-28 Edgeware Road about to be demolished, to make way for the new Aero Park, also my Old Primary School, which I just caught before its demise, as it was scheduled to be demolished the following month, also the former NAAFI shop which looks like it has been converted into a Temple, I think this is Oxford ROad, the School was behind the tree at left.
Finally, DP that is Seletar Pool alright, the Britannia Pool had a sun deck behind the main diving board, overlooking the City and Harbour.:)

Gosport (Grange) Airfield Aerial Pics
Thanks Flat for your last,
You prompted me to take another delve in the archive to come up with something similar, but also to help illustrate clearly what I have said in my last couple posts on this very interesting thread.
The two attached pics were taken immediate post war, I know that for sure, as the future location of the family home is still a field!.
The first pic I have marked the Church at Rowner Lane (left), the right hand one denotes roughly the location of the fenced off aircraft dump, as I remember it. Interestingly to the left of both markers, a line of what look like Fireflys is shown along the boundary hedge.
In the next image I have marked the Hangars that were demolished in early sixties I believe, to make way for the HMS Centurion Records/Drafts building, one of these Hangars appears in a couple of pics of the dump aircraft in this thread. The lower right hand marker denotes the Officers Mess, the other two lower left are where the old gravel pits were, and maybe,…….and it is a big maybe, the last resting place for the Wyvern and others,……..you don’t know till you try:).
