    Hangarage

Just seen the mistake in the thread title. 😮 😮 😮

Thanks both for that. Yes, I was not particularly hopeful of getting in at Wellsbourne but it was not by any means my first choice. I do have a possible alternative but if that falls through I’ll give Mike Littler a call. Fortunately I only want relatively short term hangarage which may help my case.

Oh!!, those negative vibes – 3500 hours; that is less than 10 hours per day per year. Spread over a 4 year period it is down to less than 2 1/2 hours a day; many people spend more time than that watching television and down at the pub.

I’m surprised you say the Fury and the Spitfire take about the same time to build; I would have thought that the Fury being a biplane, would have taken longer; ask anyone who has built model aircraft whether they can build a pair of biplane wings in the same time as the can build a single monoplane wing, not withstand having to produce two sets of fittings and struts etc.. This equates to either the Spitfire taking less than 3500 hours to build or the Fury taking more than 3500 to build.

I think it is a mistake to keep a tally on the hours worked or the amount spent on a project, rather keep an account of the enjoyment and satisfaction one gets from doing it. So, it takes four years to build; at the end of that time you have something that is unique and however many similar a/c have been built yours will be unlike any other – no two home-built aircraft of the same design are identical. 😎

I know people who have been in particular trades for all their working lives and I would not let them anywhere near my projects without retraining because their abilities in aircraft building are not up to scratch – metal, wood, composite, take your pick.

Negative vibes have no place in the home-building scene.

getting people into flying should not just be for the wealthy few.

I’m not wealthy and most of my friends are not either. Trouble is today that so many people want everything for nothing. I wanted to fly so gave up holidays abroad, drinking, smoking and unnecessary luxuries – result is I can engage in my passion for flying – simple really and I do have a life!:D

Can anyone identify this cockpit; taken in England, probably about 1990.

Has anyone checked out the webmasters name. Might throw light on the subject.

Have the best of both worlds and get a high wing with a clear centre section. You have the uninterrupted downward views and a clear upward view of the low winger letting down on you.

I understood that ANR worked as you say and if this is so then the stall warning will not be heard, depending how good the ANR is, as it is part of the cabin noise – it will be a louder component of ambient noise and the ANR circuits will process it as such, this would also apply to engine noise. I could be wrong. The ANR headset is certainly something I could not warrant the cost of as a recreational flyer.

Ninja Turtles, Star Wars, Television, what are these things, we had none of them when I was young we had to make our own entertainment. Depending what was in season we would go across the fields and pick incendary bombs or chase doodlebugs, V2’s or anything else that happened to fall out of the sky – it used to be a race between the local lads, the Policeman and the POW’s to see who could get there first to bag the best pieces. It is only now that I realise what the value of some of the junk would be today. We would also sneak into the local Italian POW camp, through holes in the fence, to play football or we would help them with hedging and ditching or bridge (small ones) building on the local farms. We had adventure but today’s kids are not allowed to do anything incase they hurt themselves. Oh Happy Days.

Thats enough of me waffling on – I’m young at heart though.
