Great news, congratulations to everyone involved. 🙂 I have to say it’s good to see a freshly restored Spit flying in primer with its G-reg plastered all over it, it’s reminiscant of the ‘old days’ of the 80’s and 90’s. Very retro 😉 😀
I agree – thats the way they should look on first flights.
Great to see her back.
There’s a superbly worded article in one of the aviation magazines this month on flying the Chipmunk. Of course I cannot tell you which magazine it is, but you’ll spot it by the photo of a Chipmunk on the front! Highly recommended.
That will be the one for Pilot ‘s then.:D
Really nice selection of images. Especially like the first shot of the BBMF PRXIX.
These pictures are brilliant!!! It’s a different class. What I never knew, is that it is possible to make a dramatic picture of a formation of Chipmunks.
Thanks GliderSpit,
I really like the Chipmunk shot too – my favorite aircraft so I have a soft spot for them!

This is one of the best ever sets of low flying images posted including those I see on low fly net.
Ditto – by a long way! Brilliant work – especially the first two images.
My gosh – my parents live in Grove – it’s where I grew up – news to me about the Venom. Guess I should visit them!
For those of you visiting Old Warden on Sunday, please call into the shop to see the launch of this excellent book by Nick Barnard. It is a great way to learn about the basics of flying and has some really illustrations inside.
Nick will be in the Shop on Sunday to sign copies of the book.

That picture kinda says a thousand words.
Not good.
I did not know Gerry, but I am sure he will be very much missed.
Well then it must be the close distance to the aircraft at Old Warden (and maybe the enormous amount of pixels) that made these brilliant pics technically possible. I just got an EF 100-400 L IS for my 20D. Hope to post some pics made with this combination soon.
Arjan,
Very little cropping used on these, it’s the Old Warden flight line that gives such great oppertunities. I also use a 100-400 and it gives just as good magnifications and images, even off my 1D MkII.
Good luck with yours, looking forward to seeing some pictures:)
Darren,
How many yards is the focal length of your lens?
Not as bad as you might think, as I use the Canon 400mm f/4 DO lens (with a 1.4x converter for these shots), which isn’t as big as the older technology lenses….saves my arms from aching as well!:)
The focal length is 560mm in total (on a 1Ds MkII).
Brilliant shots there thanks for sharing Darren looks like a fab airshow.Like the Seafire and Wildcat shot. but whats the biplane with red and white wings?
James
Thanks James, The biplane is the Avro Tutor – lovely aircraft it is too!

Nice set of images, but the last shot of the Bearcat is really good. Well done!
