It was a young lady (Rear seat). Her passenger, was “delivered” back to the ARC building.

So this Hurricane was “fixed away from Station”

what Category does it make this incident on the record card?

    Paul,

I believe it was a “major service” not a fix (it was LF363 that had the mis-hap). From what I understand, its cheaper to out-source the majors, rather than doing them in-house.

Whats the story with the Texan? Is a museum item, or a future flyer?

I’m terribly sorry Darren, i really didn’t mean to make you think that you had offended me in any way. 🙂 I just wanted to clarify the situation.

I’m sure that the pilot won’t make the same error of judgement again. They are usually a very safe bunch of guys that operate at Duxford. You are right it was me with the pregnant lady, who is currently 1 week overdue! The pilot opening up the throttle so far caught us completely by surprise – it was a hell of a blast, we made the snap decision that we had more of a chance of staying vertical if we stood our ground than if we tried to waddle away 😮 .

We went to DX on Friday to see if the sound of Merlins would persuade the baby to come out. As the close proximity to a T33 opening up didn’t have that effect then i don’t know what will!!!!! Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved 😉

    Thanks Peter,

    Good Luck with the birth!

The T33 actually parked up for a few minutes in the position shown below before opening his engine up. The “Stupid Kids” were at the time stood behind the “Safety Barrier” (does the name give you a clue?) behind which they are supposed to be “Safe” and not in danger of being blasted out of existance by a rooky T33 pilot with no common sense!! Nobody was hurt as you say and Duxford officials conducted a quick rethink of the position of the safety fence. The photo below shows the positioning.

It probably wouldn’t have been so funny if anything had happened to the also present ‘heavily pregnant’ woman who wasn’t capable of running out of the way! I don’t want to over labour the point, but I do think that someone with authority to operate a high performance machine like the T33 should be capble of thinking through his actions before hand.

    Peter

Accept that had the jetwash caused an injury it would not have been funny. I did say amusing, which I think is different to funny. The pilot was on his first solo (no excuse I know). I assume that was you with the pregnent lady? Once the issue of the jetwash became apparent, the majority of those present moved away. My comment about the kids, was that they stayed in place without any effort to move. I appologise if that offended you.

Thats correct, I had a letter from Ralph this morning about this. The activities start at 10.00am on the 10th, and it would be good to get a lot of support and entry fee money from the forum for Bruce and his friends. Im afraid I will not be able to attend myself (sorry Bruce).

Apparently the T33 pilot treated a few spectators to an early suntan today. Any pics Darren?[/QUOTE]

The T-33 did a 360 degree turn on the apron just to the side of the Vulcan, and scattered a few fence panels and stupid kids who didnt move out of the way. No one was hurt, and it was not a big deal but still quite amusing 😀 .

Nice pics Darren. The BBMF Hurricane looks great in its new night fighter scheme. Do you know if it’s been flown yet, or is it still suffering from technical problems?

    Mike,

I believe the BBMF have yet to test her, but I dont know for sure.
