There is not a great deal I can add, that has not already been said.

On the question of images for magazine work, thats one I can answer.

All my images are now digital and my film SLR, is now in my loft collecting dust! I mainly use a 10D (but sometimes others), and shoot RAW as much as possible (yes it is slower, and takes up memory, but it is worth it). I can use these images on double page spreads without a problem. All our cover images are also shot on digital. On the other hand, one of our sister magazines prefers to use a mix of film and digital. One thing I can say against film for magazines, is that even on a pro scanner with lots of photoshop work, the images are often not as clear as the digital ones.

This is my personal view, and its horses for courses at the end of the day, as to which you prefer.

I did toy with the idea of doing some shots on location at Duxford. Then I could have captured four bristols! 😀

a lot of these questions will be answered based on individuals personal preference.

Best lens for the 20D would be the Canon 100-400IS USM, but it ain’t cheap at £1100.

I personally use a combination of lenses, but a 100-300mm will suit most needs. Using a converter will generally cause a reduction in light, and the lens will often find it harder to focus. If however its a nice bright day, then the canon 1.4X or 2X converters are great tools to have, but can only be used with certain lenses.

For camera set up, I tend to use shutter priority for all flying shots, with the focus set to servo. For pistons I use a maximum of 1/250th second to avoid freezing the props, but for jets, I would use 1/500th or higher (subject to available light).

The most important thing is to pan with the aircraft as you take your picture, otherwise the camera and lens is irrelavent.

    Hope this helps.

Ah so it was you then!!! 😀 😀

To be honest, not this time, but when I saw the cover being put together, I did comment that the headline would create a few waves! All the “Old Timer” content is compiled by Peter March, and he does indicate in the article that this is still to be confirmed as its down to the CWH now.

Just watched the program. Its a shame so much of the A-26 was left in the ground, but as quoted on the program, the resource was not available for such a large scale extraction. What happened to the tail section and engines? Any photos of her now?
