BBMF and 109 pair at North Weald
Thanks Mike, I had assumed as a military aircraft, it would have had a service serial number.
I was very fortunate to see this for real. I was an air cadet on summer camp at St Athan. I was busy sanding down a Tornado in the hanger on a “work experience” placement, when the guys invited us outside the hanger to see something unusual. From what I remember, the pilot was the test pilot for post servicing flights, and this was his party piece.
Very impresive!
Thanks for the advice Geoff, lets see if it works….
The picture that Robbo has posted of the IWM airframe is almost the same state as the airframe currently looks. They have started more work on the mid turret now.
I was at Duxford today and the Blenham was covered up, engines and wings removed. A very sad sight.
On a more positive note, the airframe that is being restored for the IWM, is looking good. I will try to post some pictures, if I can work out how to reduce the file size!
Another good point was that Carolyn Grace was running up ML407 today, She can’t be too far off being back in the air.
Where is AR213 these days? I assume she is under maintainance as I have not seen her for a long time.
All three fore mentioned pubs are excellent, and they are all within easy reach of Shuttleworth. Try out them all if you can!If you are planning a visit, you may need to book, depending on the day.
I believe that it is the one that is at RIAT. Yes, it is now in a camo scheme.
Totally know where you are coming from Lancman. I was very lucky this year to get in free as part of youth day. I would not normally have gone if I had had to pay. The 100 years of flight lineup is however unique and actually worth seeing.
Yes it is. Glad you could post an image, as I am not getting anywhere!
Could not think what to say when I got back yesterday. Still gutted, and shocked by the loss of life. God bless them, and we Will always remember them.
As a old boy of Wantage, or Grove to factual, I have no issues with Didcot. If it wasn’t for Didcot power station I would have failed to have found my way back to good old RAF Abingdon in clouds. (not that we ever went above clound without through visability!)
Now days I live in Bedfordshire within a stones through of Old Warden and not too far from the mecca that is Duxford!
If The Spitfire you spotted was the PR XIX, then it was proberbly on its way to or returning from RAF Wyton.
We had the pleasure of a very low flypast for a parade on the station at around 3.15PM. The only problem was that being flight commander of one of the assembled flights on parade, I heard more than I saw (very frustrating!), but having watched a video play back, the flypast was VERY low!
The Lancaster and Spit had both put in an apperance on the Saturday as well. I assume they were doing a recce’.
RE: Film versus digital
This is quite an interesting debate, and despite it not being specific to aviation, a lot of us use cameras to record our interest in aviation subjects.
I have a personal interest in the comments raised by all of you. I am currently involved in a major imaging development and digital printing project for my employer (A major UK retailer). This involves looking at the existing requirements of the 35mm user and the “life” of silver halide technology.
Digital is a massive growth area in imaging products, as you are all aware. From the printing side, you can print at home or get your pictures printed by a printing company. My colleges and I have recently introduced such a service for customers, that I have been further developing. These services will allow you to print large pictures, and have them delivered to your door. As the camera resolutions get better, and Digital body’s for existing lenses become cheaper, the digital world becomes a lot more attractive.
Storage on CD is as safe as a slide, and can be stored in less space. Image capacity on a disk, depend on the size of the image file. With DVD recordable, you can get 4.7GB of data on 1 disc!
Watch this space….
Please feel free to E-mail me direct if you with to ask any questions off forum on this.

RE: Former WOGB airframes
It such a huge shame that the mass of aircraft owned by WofGB are no longer gracing the UK skies. I remember several years back, when two of the Spitfire’s made an appearance at one of the Biggin air fairs. I believe they have re named as Flying A Services now (I may be wrong). If this is the case, Flying A services had a Seafire under restoration to fly.If only the late Doug Arnold was still alive, (And the inspirational Charles Church for that matter)what a different picture the UK Warbird scene may have been.
