What fantasy land do you live in?

Russia is transferring its own S-400s to Turkey? Any proof aside of this nonsense? Why would Russia grab its own, non-export modified AD backbone and give it to Turkey so they can establish a no fly-zone over a country Russia supports?

This is the latest out of Russia. They are decided on the contract in general, but the credit question remains. That is right, Turkey wants a credit like (right now, lol,) to buy the system.
Needless to say no massive ToT is on the table either.

    TURKISH MEDIA TODAY

Turkey is to begin Operation Euphrates Sword in Syria within 48 hours. It has amassed 7000 Special Forces on border.

Mr. Putin has agreed to withdraw from Afrin and hand over control to Turkey.

Mr. Trump is due to hold a telephone conference today with President Erdogan in a bid to dissuade him.

Turkey says the US has begun Scrambling GPS signals in Eastern Turkey.

TR1, I said “some Turkish media” and specified that the information was not yet confirmed. Before jumping up and down and speculating as to it being rubbish wait for the Contract details to be released. You might be surprised.

P.S. Requesting a FMS type credit does not mean you do not have the funds to purchase a system. It means you spread out the cost of such system over several budgets.

With regards to ToT, had what you said been true Turkey would not have purchased the S400 and opted for the Chinese knockoff. Putin has clearly stated ToT.

SpudmanWP, my thoughts exactly! (Provided it turns out to be true)

I bet Turkey will be testing the S-400’s radar detection and tracking capabilities with US F-35’s (possible even F-22’s) in Syria or with its own F-35’s due to be delivered during the first quarter of 2018.

I also now believe that Turkey will be in the very unique position of developing a very effective Air Defence system once it obtains technology transfer for the S-400, considering that it has access to both Western and Russian/Chinese produced aircraft (via US, Pakistan and Azerbaijan). Turkey in any event must be having a field day with all the signals intelligence it is collecting in Syria using its Land Based Koral EW Systems. Turkish officials already boast that they have one of the largest databases.

No doubt Turkey will also use the technology it gains from the S-400’s to further develop ASELSAN’s ÇAFRAD, Multifunction, Phased Array Radar systems.

I cant believe this is all happening. Who would have thought Mr. Putin would transfer technology to a NATO member State!

Turkish media reporting that Russia and Turkey have reached agreement on Turkey’s acquisition of S-400 systems. Turkey has requested urgent delivery in light of the situation in Syria. Russia has allegedly agreed to transfer a few systems from its own inventory due to Turkey’s urgent requirements. The deal also involves technology transfer and the systems will be integrated into Turkey’s own Weapons Network independent of NATO.

This means that Turkey can now impose its own no-fly zone in Syria in Operation Euphrates Shield zones.

Haavarla, I am merely reproducing here what I have heard from reputable sources so that we can have near real-time updates on the situation in Syria and the broader Middle East. For me to be engaging in a nationalistic pissing contest I need to be making outlandish statements without citing reputable media sources. Unfortunately alliances are changing like quicksand now and the situation in Syria is very fluid.

Turkish Military sources state that they have begun shelling Afrin, Syria with Howitzers and MLRS systems last night.

Washington has been informed and advised to leave the area as the Turkish Army cannot guarantee their safety.

Believe me Europe doesn’t. A Turkey closer to the Western camp can be controlled more easily than a Turkey in the Eastern camp.

All important oil and gas lines from the Middle East & Central Asia to Europe transverse or will transverse Turkish territory. Turkey determines whether Russia’s Black Sea Fleet enters the Mediterranean or not.

The good news is that Turkey and the United Kingdom signed a Defence pact independent of NATO back in 2010. Hence, the United Kingdom knew that Turkey was mulling a withdrawal from NATO.

If only France would do the same.

I personally think Germany is the instigator of all this. Fuher Merkel wants to create a European Defence Force. The question is- does the UK and Turkey join this umbrella? Could this be what the EU has offered Turkey and the UK- a privileged partnership?

    And Turkey drops the “bombshell”….

Turkey announces that it is reviewing its membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in response to “one of its NATO “allies” arming a terrorist group that is waging a war in Turkey”. The Turkish President stated: “Those so-called friends don’t see any issue walking along with terror organisations who want to divide Turkey,”: See http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/06/26/turkeys-erdogan-calls-review-nato-us-arming-kurds-fighting-isil/

What implications if any would Turkey’s exit from NATO have on Europe in light of the fact that Turkey controls the Bosporus Strait (entry and exit into the Black Sea) and soon the Istanbul Canal (which is solely under Turkish Sovereignty- i.e. Montreux Convention Regarding the Regime of the Straits is a 1936 does not apply)???

Russia and Turkey are planning a massive assault on Idlib province. Both Turkish and Russian Armed Forces have been mobilizing near Idlib last night.

“Turkey and Russia to deploy in Syria’s Idlib: Erdogan spokesman”: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-mideast-crisis-syria-turkey-russia-idUSKBN19D1WI

    See also https://www.militarytimes.com/articles/afrin-turkey-kurds-raqqa-isis

Reports on livemap that the US is moving soldiers to Manbij to counter Russian and Turkish moves. It looks like there is a very high risk of two NATO ‘allies’ engaging each other in Syria.

Both engines use a turbine for power. In a turbine engine, air is compressed and then fuel is ignited in this compressed air. The energy produced by the ignition turns the turbine. The turbine is then able to drive both the compressor at the front of the engine and also some useful load. It also produces thrust.

1st gen. jet engines were turbojets: a simple turbine engine that produces all of its thrust from the exhaust from the turbine section. As all of the air is passing through the whole turbine, all of it must burn fuel = inefficient. In turbofan engines the turbine primarily drives a fan at the front of the engine.

    Similar technology.

Hence why I said Turkey is looking for fuel efficiency and thus why it is partnering with Rolls-Royce & others. That is, Turkey is not starting from scratch but obtaining consultancy from established turbo-fan engine producers to develop a high-bypass new generation turbo-fan engine for the TF-X.

I think it is also prudent for me to mention that Turkey also produces single crustal superalloys for Turbofan engines as well.

Tubitak-MAM Materials Institute conducts research and development in this area which it then transfers to Turkish companies.

@Andraxxus whilst what you say may be correct with regards to production of the F110 for the Peace Onyx I, Peace Onyx II, Peace Onyx III programs this definitely was not the case for Peace Onyx IV. They were total licence builds.

But I do agree that it is a moot point because Turkey does indeed have turbo-fan technology. Development of the TEI TJ-90 turbojet engine proves this in any event. Does it have the technology? Yes, Is such technology at the level of its Western counterparts? No
